Ran the splitter a little bit and finished out a stack I started a few weeks ago. I forgot to take the tape measure along so I'm not sure how much is there. I will get a measurement some other time. Mixture of red maple, ash, elm and some highly valuable black walnut. This will be for next year. The uncovered stack in front is red maple with some pine. I split some red oak to add it to the 2022/2023 pile. The covered stack is all oak that will be burned next winter. Summer 2020 will be its 3rd summer. I got some 2x4s and cinder blocks to make a redneck saw jack. Its time to get all of this slab wood out of the way. I got a really good price on a load of logs that should be coming in a few weeks. And finally some goat pics just for fun...
Looking good sir! Love the redneck saw horse. Just not liking that white stuff on the ground. Havent seen any in these parts yet!
Come a long way from burning fresh cut dead standing Elm, eh Marvin !? Nice work...like the EPDM covers too! I just scored a bunch of that and am switching over as I stack the fresh wood...like it a lot so far.
Yeah I like this idea of cutting a few years ahead soooooooo much better! I wanted to get some more rubber roofing but they were out. Only got 1 sheet so far. The biggest issue was trying to keep them down in the wind. Had to invest is some pavers for that. I'm definitely gonna be picking up some more for top coverage though.
Hope to have some goats come spring. Have a thick area full of goat heaven. Nice looking stacks. Progess is always good
What do ya call the river hills? I'm not far from Greenwood State Park. We will be selling the babies very soon.
I'm in york county, along susquehanna right across from lancaster . Our hills arent as big as the ones up north/ north west part of state
Love the slab wood Marvin, some of that kinda wood I’m hoping to find more down the road. It sure makes some awesome stove filler. Great goats, what breed is this again?
Nigerian Dwarf and Pygmy. They dont get very big but that is the way we like them. Sometimes they think they're pretty big though
Thank you Maina! I am hoping this load of logs gets me there or dang close. In not entirely sure how much I burn in an average winter though. I had about 3.25 cord ready for this year so we'll see how that works out.
Nice stacks Lots of work involved Even “unburied” Firewood work keeps you warm . Feels good too .... .... Good job
You’re ahead of me. I have 4 for this year and I’ll add a ton of bricks to that, and I have 9-10 cord css’d for the next 2 years. Hopefully by next summer it’ll be more like 15. Cutting beech on the neighbors property here and there when both of us old farts feel up for it for now. Monday and Tuesday are looks good weather wise.
Just knowing that I have that much set back for next year is such a relief. I also have a few dead standing ash trees within 50 yards of my house that will be added to the stacks fairly soon. It feels like a weight has been taken off of my shoulders
Nice work. That’s a lotta sticks to buck up. Been there done that. So far to hold down the rubber I’ve been using the old pallets not in good enough condition to go back on the ground. Rotten side up Works so so. May need to put some weight inside them someday. just judging by the grey color your damp blocks turn I’d say you have “Way Light” blocks there. Be a little careful about the shock you impart on them. Lighter but not as strong as a conventional cement block. They could fail on you with no warning.
Thanks for the heads up. I just grabbed the cheapest ones that would work. We'll see how long they last.
