Side note.. Not sure of the validity, but I remember reading once that growing hemp was compulsory back in colonial times. I'm not sure of the compulsory portion, but with the need of hemp for rope and sails, it seems like it would be a profitable crop to say the least.
Yes the British colonies were required to have supplies as hemp was required for hull chinking, sails and rope and who knows what else. and yeah, Dean Horton is probably standing in a field of Hemp. Quite a few tobacco fields/farmers/Ag schools are being allowed to now grow (industrial) hemp. We've been importing tons and tons of hemp because of the ban from the thirties. That's dumb despite trade agreements having made it convenient.
Man would I love to get some of those heavy branches for bowl carving. Carry that tree forward a few hundred more years.
