Done for SisIL today. Most is 1/2 punky scrub Pine (since I'm not really sure WTH it is).
Some was left from our last splitting session in my driveway.
She handed me rounds and I split. We took a short break about 1/2 way through so I could rest the old back.
    I'll guesstimate about 1/3 cord.
I have a bunch of rounds cut up from the logs I have that we'll get to at some point. I started to finish a cut in an oversize round and very quickly found out why the guy she had cutting this stuff stopped on this one. The chain hit an eye bolt.:hair: Lost one tooth and several teeth are bent or chipped. :picard:
I'll take the file to it and see if I can salvage it.

Nice looking stuff. Liked the post but not the eyebolt. I hate when that happens:headbang::mad:, but until they have a chainsaw that detects metal in wood we have to find it the hard way!:picard: Hope you can salvage the chain!

Yeah, that's the "glam shot". It's actually a bunch of fairly crappy stuff she's had sitting around for a while. Better than a sharp stick in the eye, but not by much.
She needs the firewood, so it is wut it is. Been telling her since before she moved here that she needed to get some wood put up. I think she's finally getting it just a bit.
As I was pulling the splitter back to the shed I felt it sort of tugging on the tractor a little. Pulled up to the shop door thinking a tire was low and when I got a look at it, the tire bead was popped off the rim.
That should prove to be some fun.

Good for you papadave helping out. I rather deal with the messed up chain, than a tire that lost it's bead for sure.:headbang:

Never hit an eye bolt, but I did have a chain find a piece of rebar that a pine grew around. Made a heck of a racket and destroyed the chain.

A ratchet strap around the tire might help get it seated back on the bead. Or, if you have a clamp on tire chuck, pull the valve out of the stem, clamp on the chuck and connect the air hose to the compressor. A quick rush of air might do the trick to blast it back in the bead. Had to do that to my mower a few times until I broke down and got a tube for it.

Thanks for the ideas. It's sitting right where I left it, so should be easy to find tomorrow once it warms up a bit.

Yep most of the time the only way to get it done is with a big blast of air

Didn't mention (until now) that the wife backed into something with the new truck.
VERY minor ding, but man, if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any.
I'm really hopeful that holdin' down mah chair today will keep anything else from going wrong.

Well, some good news. I took the wheel off and managed to get the tire seated again, so that's gooder. Bearing is greased up and back in.
Another small issue is now I don't have the right size cotter pin for the castle nut. Might go to the Ace uptown in a bit to see if they have what I need.
Bailey's has the chain for $14.99 &shipping, but I think I can do better down in Mio at the Amish hardware. We're heading downstate in a few days, so I'll stop in and check it out (we drive right past). Might grab one anyway to have an extra.
Decided that wasn't gittin' er dun, so...............

You may even do better further downstate but not sure about that. Sometimes one has to shop around.

I might try the hardware in town too, but most of his prices are high.

Went back out and straightened out the old cotter pin and put it all back together. Gooder. Didn't want to wait.
Chain filed. Seems to cut ok, but only ran it in a chunk of Red Pine for a few seconds.
Happy camper here. I should really do the other wheel bearing........but that can wait for spring. It never goes on the road, so it's good for now. Come to think of it, I should do the trailer as well.

Glad it worked out okay. Did you buy another chain for backup?
