I found this on CL today. It's a downed ash tree. I guess the tree guy that was hired to "dispose of it" - cut it down and didn't cut it up. They just bailed. The homeowner put the tree on CL as "Free ash firewood, you must cut up and haul" So cut up and haul I did! The only crappy part is that I had to drive down to Lakewood, which is about 30 minutes from my house.

It over-filled the back of my Ram 2500. It's a bigger tree than it looks. I even cut down that stump in the back ground and hauled it off. The stump was about 30 inches wide. The tree is dry and ready to go. I probably won't burn it till next winter, though. I have more than enough ash to get me through this winter.

Nice. I'd say that's fuel and time well spent.

How much cordage will that net you? Any pics of the load in the truck?

It’s probably 3/4 cord, I’d guess. I didn’t take a picture of the wood in the truck. I need to get back in the habit of doing that. Before I discovered this site, I’d bore people with pictures like that, so I stopped taking them.

Yeah get back into that habit.:) We love seeing pictures like that.

I can tell you that seeing pictures of people's new wood hoards/ scrounges really motivates me to process more firewood.:handshake:

Absolutely. I don’t post much of my scrounges but when they have some potential or a story, that’s most likely when I do.
Nice pick up. I used to live in a town called Lakewood, up in WA though...

It's not bad, but I'll say that the elm part of it is wrong. Elm burns great. The other part is that they talk about wet ash still burning good. Well then, there's a problem. The wood needs to be dry to burn well.

I actually agree. I burn a ton of elm. I love it.

That poem is posted above a large stone hearth in stone building at the peak of whiteface mountain.... overlooking Lake Placid, NY. Came across it on a trip there a few years back.
