My sister helped me get the red oak split and stacked. She helps to keep me focused on the task at hand. I would like to build some wood storage sheds; for now it is just stacked beside the drive.
Very nicely done. Always a sigh of relief when its done, but as wood hoarders its never really is done is it?
No it isn't and I have a lot of down oak here that I want to get out. However, this place is hills and I need the Old Girl back in operation. I brought a wheelbarrow up the hill awhile back and had to make several stops along the way.
Good job, Kimberly . When do you expect to be able to burn that? Looks like that spot might get a bit of wind, at least.
While the tree had been down a few years, it is still rather wet. In the summer it will be in shade. I really don't know.
Not much drying happens when it's in log form. About 1 year per inch of thickness to dry that way. But it looks like the bark came off as you split it, which will help it dry much faster. Possibly good for next year, maybe the following. Shade in the Summer isn't such a bad thing, it's humid then anyway. Most of the drying takes place in fall & spring when the dew point is low.
