We just signed up on Chipdrop.com and got our first delivery. Big load of white oak mostly already bucked up. For free. You can specify if you want chips or logs and no pine.

That could be a game changer for some folks on here that have to scrounge a lot or hoard in a vehicle other than a truck. Good looking out man!

Sweet! I totally signed up. I wonder how many people are using this for the purposes of firewood. I was pretty specific about the species I could not accept when signing up. It's pretty obvious I want hardwood for firewood. Lol...worst case scenario I don't get any drops.

I was signed up for several months and never got anything. And I specified I'd take ANYTHING, wood or chips of any species. I think it depends hugely on where you live - city/suburban areas probably have better luck than very rural areas like where I am.

Im not holding my breath. I live in more of a rural area also.

Thanks Mitch Newton. You're an enabler!

Edit*** just checked the history map of drops. Looks like closest drops were 40-50 miles away. Nothing even close. If you're in baltimore county, maryland probably good chance.

I signed up and got a bunch of giant (36" plus) rounds of cottonwood.... and some other uglies... It took a while to split it all and actually only turned out to be a little over a cord.

The tree companies pay to be members of that chipdrop IIRC...so I can't imagine tree guys around here paying when there's countless places to drop wood and chips, and probably an endless supply of people that will take it. A lot of people burn wood up here, I wouldn't doubt half the time they cut trees the customer asks them to leave it so they (or a friend) can use it for firewood.

Ive heard of it and would sign up but have no where to drop wood. Im just afraid of wood quality. Ive seen some atrocious wood in my days. Prefer to pick and choose. I know mrfancyplants got a load of chips, but dont know about wood.

Yeah, just chips, but the company that dropped chips texted me back saying they had a load of pine and maple. I don’t really have the space to drop either.. even with the chips it was a scramble to invert the sidewalk before anyone complained and then unbury the yard before all the grass died. I think the logs would be too much for me.

I signed up but haven't activated the account yet. The only place I saw that you can specify was Gardener and it only listed chips. I don't want chips and would be leery of coming home to a tri-axle dump of chips in the driveway. They could bring all the logs they want. After you activate the account is there other screens to specify?

When I signed up, you could request chips, logs or both.

Signed up for a log drop. Hope I'm here when and if they arrive. Would really like to have the logs dropped out back but kind of hard to explain so north side yard is where I requested. .
