Looks like compound leaves and wide grain like locust fingers crossed (for permission to hoard).

Yes on the locust! The sawtooth shaped bark on the rounds is a giveaway. 6ACC2F69-FE29-447D-960A-898E1058C409.jpeg

Yes Locust. Look at the yellowish color of the wood and thick bark

Don’t split it too big. I’ve found 4-5” splits work best

mrfancyplants. Look like good ol certifed primo locust to me. Some of my buddies tell me I'm a wood snob for not selling it.:hair: I even save the bark for starting fires.

And you’d be wise not to sell it. I made that sacrifice a little ways back, but luckily some is still in my stacks and I went ahead with just splitting mine in half to just let it season the barest way. Splitting more later on seems better.

Sure looks like locust to me. Dries relatively fast and produces high BTU's. Stoveshamster and I were talking about the weird way in which it burns the other day. It burns blue.

I’ve never seen the “blue”. But the ‘radiation’ heat is palpable!

Not yet, I am hoping for permission. It is a tree down in a parking lot of a club pool in my neighborhood.

I just got an email back that “anything cut into fireplace lengths is spoken for” but I am welcome to work in the remaining trunks.:dex:

I have several tests I can run to verify the species. Drop a load off at my place and I will let you know the results.

Too bad the tests take a couple years to compile the results. I need to know sooner:D

Definitely locust. I just got my first locust score last year. They were all yardbird trees, cut into as many different lengths as there are numbers on a yardstick. The guy who posted it called it a weedtree, maybe pine he said. I gladly helped him buck the 2 trees he had left, and took everything over 2 inches. I told him I was desperate for wood and take anything I could find. I also felt sorry for him as he was using a Walmart brand chainsaw that cut way too many rocks and nails.
