Yes, bolt action. There are many good rifles on the market now. I'm considering buying another.

Last rifle I used before retiring from Ditch Donkey hunting was a 760 Remington Woodsmaster Carbine in .270 with a 1 x 4 Redfield scope.

You too, huh. I was up at 2:30 this morning and I haven’t been to sleep yet. I was binge watching Man in the High Castle. Getting older screws up our sleep patterns.

I have a 300 Win Mag, a little stout for deer unless it is 300 yards, great moose round when you want a swamp donkey to drop in it's tracks. 300 blackouts are a decent round for closer range, took a deer last year with one at probably 40 yards. AR platform short barrels hinder it's effectiveness in my opinion.

Looky here, cool! Hopefully I won't need a booster . There's a lever to raise/lower the drivers seat.

Relaxed early this morning. Then my son and I went and worked out for about an hour and a half.

More work done with the 310J for the rest of the day. Cleaning out a section along the edge of the pond that the cattails are taking over. I forgot to take a few pics. Next time I’m at it I’ll snap a couple.

We have had two cold nights down in the single digits but both of them led to nice sunny days. Made some good progress on a couple projects.

No Packer game today so I fired up the heat in my shed and touched up my zero turn mower with some yellow paint

The 300 win mag works well on whitetails, even within 100 yards. As long as you don't hit a shoulder blade it's no more over kill than a 308. Same goes for the 7mm rem mag. I think the biggest hindrance to the AR platform for deer is the traditional charging handle. A side charging upper fixes that issue. As far as the short at barrel, different cartridges respond to different length barrels, and you can buy all sorts of lengths. Obviously the longer the better. From what I see, the 300 BLK should be treated like a 30/30. The 7.62x39 is between the 30/30 and a 308. The x39 does really well in an an AR, better than in an AK as the ar its inherently a much more accurate platform.

Not much energy today but still got a few things done. Got some venison and pork salami mixed and curing for the smoker tomorrow. Made a big pot of green beans for dinner. Got 2 more gallons of hard cider started. Went to church. Pulled wire and hung 3 rolls of insulation in the garage. Unloaded a truck load of OSB. Took my son hunting. Loaded the boiler and cleaned up the garage enough to get the vehicles back in. I've got zero energy now...hope I'm not getting sick.
