Been keeping my eye open. Finally. Got twenty 4’x6’ plastic pallets. 5 bucks a pop. These should work.

I would love that, gladly pay that for plastic, cool! Never see those around here, they're all wood.

    You trying to kill me?
Ok I admit pulling logs home from somebody else’s property is a real rush for me. I do enjoy the scrounge factor.
But it’s time to continue processing what I already have. And I have probably 30 cord of dying trees on my property already that need to come home. I haven’t even looked at the furthest corner yet but google earth says there’s at least 10 dead trees in that little spot.
I also bought a block heater pad for my log splitter yesterday. I’ll use it on the hydro pump. Can’t start it in cold weather.
Considered going to a thinner fluid but the ram leaks already.

    Not a bad idea.
I’ve mentioned it somewhere around here, my method for sub 32° starts...
I remove the recoil housing which exposes the crankshaft nut and chuck up a 3/4” socket to an adapter in my corded masonry drill (hammer “off”)... set speed on splitter motor to idle, press drill trigger to WFO and the thing turns the motor over effortlessly. The idle speed setting matches the wide open speed of the drill, ensuring I don’t get tossed across the yard when she kicks over.

I’ve read some people unbolt the pump. All too much work for me in cold weather. Then the pump is still freezing cold when you connect it back up. I’m thinking it’s the pump/hydro fluid because I switched to a lightweight synthetic motor oil already. That seemed to help some but you can hardly pull the rope in this weather.
I used the same method to start an old Locke mower years ago. Drill and socket. No recoil on that vintage machine anyway. Used a battery operated with clutch to make sure I didn’t get my arm broke. Socket slid off easily once it gets up to speed. Sure saves the old shoulder socket.

I did basically the same thing. Couldn’t get my new dirty hands 35ton splitter to run when I first got it. I found a ratcheting adapter lying around the shop to put on it to keep me from getting tossed. Run it like that for probably 3 years even though it bagan starting easily. Just put the recoil back on probably three weeks ago. Got to be kind of a pain in the ash making sure I had the drill with me and a good battery

My DHT has been nothing but breaking broken parts. The motor though, pretty darn good.
First fire up I thought I was gonna yank it and run, last second I decided to pull it over slow in hopes of getting some oil on the cylinder walls first.
Just barely moving the rope it caught and fired right up. I was shocked.

There is a metal piece on the fuel line where it enters the carb. That’s caused issues. Any air in there and it corrodes right up. Can’t leave it empty or even shut off the gas. Besides that the engine is great.

I’ve learned to never shut my fuel off also. Talked with 2 other people who have DHTs & they had the same experience with new ones not starting. After finally getting to run the first couple times they’re good

On getting splitters to start in winter, I just don't. I stack up the wood and wait until spring when it is easy to start it. Also that actually saves work because I don't have to get the splitter out every time I cut wood. I get it out once per year, do the splitting and then put it in the shed and forget it until next spring.
