I was curious what each of my saws weighed with bar and chain attached, because no one cuts with the PHO. Totally unscientific, what with the bathroom scale being used for gathering weight measurements, but enlightening none the less. 562XP with 20" Techlite bar. 16.6# MS261C-M with 16" Stihl Rollomatic E bar 14.8# MS250 with 16" Stihl Rollomatic E bar 12.8# The 562XP surprised me the most. While heavier by almost 2# it does not seem so in the hand.
Havent weighed them all yet,but this is right at 32 pounds with full tanks & 30" vintage .404 rollernose bar/new skip chain.
Hi Thistle, I bought a McCulloch chain saw back in the early 80's. It has a 20 in bar. Very heavy. So heavy I gave it to my son when he started to cut some wood to heat his home. I gave him that and the all nighter wood stove we had. The saw was kept in excellent condition and still is. Now he is telling me how heavy it is. But the price was right for him! That saw cost me about $300 back then. I think it is a well built saw.
Is the gas and oil topped off? I thought about doing one of these threads, but never did it. Do you mind if others post weights in your thread? I have a few new saws coming, and would be happy to weigh all of mine with bar, chain, and fluids topped off.
Dex, the fluids were not top off. However they were all close in amounts. Thought about that after I started weighing them. No problem in others adding weights to the post. It would be good to have some other comparisons.
I think the best real-world weights are a fully dressed saw with a little sawdust under the covers and full tanks of fuel and bar oil. That's how mine go to work. I don't know what I could weigh that Dex doesn't have covered, oh wait, hold on a sec..... I should have another MS241C-M 18" here in a couple days. I'll weigh her up dry PHO and fully dressed just for the record.
2010 Husqy 359, Oregon Pro-Lite 20" x .050 x 3/8 x 72DL 16.6 , almost empty Specs say 12.1 , with no cutting equipment ( & I guess dry )
Sounds like a PM610.They sold tons of these from 1978 to 1994,main difference between the early & late models was the style of chain brake/hand guard.A bit heavy yes,but lots of power & torque for a mid sized 60cc saw.My first one was new in early 90's,pulled a 24" bar/chain in oak all day long.Very reliable, almost indestructible, lots of these still around being used on a daily basis. My current one (Craigslist bargain last July) sees regular use, came with a 16" bar so that's what stays on it for better RPM's.
My Dad has run a Mac 610 since the early 80s. I remember it being heavy, but I've found a few sites that say about 18lbs with a 16" bar.
Myself and someone else did this a while ago with a husky 550xp.... And a stihl saw... Cant remember which one. But..... I think we said that the tanks had to all be full ... Everything clean... And readt to go as if you were gonna take it out and cut. Its real world stuff that makes sense to me. Not empty tanks on a PHO
This is a brand new, stock, never fueled..... MS261C-M dry PHO Dry but dressed for battle.... Fully fueled and oiled, ready to go...
Same story, new, never fueled, bone stock. MS241C-M 18" B&C Dry PHO (Edit: aww crap, forgot to reinstall the clutch cover, which is much lighter than the 261's) Dressed: Fueled up and ready to rock:
I'll try to get a 550 with 16" bar and then a 460 and 390xpw. I don't figure you guys want to know how much the 088 weighs.
If I get time tonight, I will do the 555 (coming today) and the 441C (unless MM beats me to it). Everything else I have is out or on the way. The 6400 should be here tomorrow. I already ordered bars for both of them (555 and 6400).
