I had this piece of lodge pole pine that had a lot of bumps on it so I wanted to mill it eventually for another bench.
Those will make nice benches there must be some serious wind at your place by your pictures there is not a hill in sight not even a tree or did you cut them all for firewood ??
Yep this is the high plains and it can get pretty windy here. Those pieces will be used for the back and the seat I have some other wood already milled for the legs and the arms.
Those look great, I love thick, live edge planks for benches and tables. I sometimes get requests for ornate plasma cut frames and supports to mount the planks on. Makes for some heavy furniture!
Bingo! Mag Craft has already been accused of that here!! Nice work and looking forward to the finished bench pics!
Looks like they have already started splitting. Any plans to address that (ie bowtie or similar)? Nice planks otherwise.
The lodge pole pine I get is standing dead beetle kill. They are already cracked like that before you even cut them down. What I do and have done so far is to fill the cracks with glue and then clamp them. So far that has worked pretty good and these pieces do get used for outside. I would use resin but I am afraid the big change in temps would crack the resin out when glue will not do that. Even the finish has to have some kind of flexibility to work good.
