I was in a rush and put the bar oil in the petrol tank and vice versa. Drained it all out and pulled the petrol filter off and cleaned it. I don’t have a compressor so couldn’t properly push the oil out of the line. It starts and runs for a few secs when I manually put a little petrol in the carb but then conks out. This is a super cheapy chainsaw but has been handy. It sucks ive never done such a stupid thing to any mechanical equipment ever.
I’ve done that before, don’t feel bad. I caught my mistake and dumped the tanks and just flushed them out.
It will not hurt anything but depending if you started it before you realized your mistake and drew the bar oil into the carb. you may have to pull the carb apart to clean it out good luck I have had many customers do the same thing I have also had a couple who fueled their saw with diesel fuel JB
Product "Mechanic in a bottle," it seems that might work to weave its way through your fuel system if, in fact, you figure out you need to take everything apart. Would sure be easier. Small bottle about $4 here.
Oh yeah. Only realized when I couldn’t start it. That stuff is all through it I’d say. 2 hours wasted trying to fix it of time I don’t have. On a plus note I found about an American cord full of kindling in an old shed. Old sticks neatly stacked waist high about 2 meters by a meter. Also an old Honda self propelled mower that looks like it could be fixed
This Japanese brand bar oil seems a lot stickier than the stuff in Oz too. Really gooey I’ve never seen anything like it.
Don’t know if I can get it here but I’m gonna get some wd40 and spray the ever living chit out of everything. Paying to fix it might be poor economics because it’s only an $150 saw and I’ve really knocked it about already.
I've done that. I just filled it with fuel and after some pulling it started. Might have been winter oil though. Still, should start eventually, it's just oil in a two cycle engine.
OOPS! seems easy enough to do if your in a hurry and not paying attention especially with some of the icons they use today. My first chain saw was a small Homelight that had both caps right next to each other so easy enough to mix up. My biggest "oops" was forgetting to put the cap back on after i filled it up. Ruined a new pair of work pants with bar oil once! Hate to admit ive done it more than once, but hey im only human after all...i think!
My brother did the same thing with his Stihl. He took it in to the local dealer and let them deal with it. Don't worry, it's fixable.
I've done that. Didn't bother flushing though, but realized it just as I topped off the oil reservoir with gas but hadn't done the gas tank yet.
Pull the spark plug and see if there's bar oil in the cylinder. Bare minimum it will be easier to pull over and clear the bar oil from the carb. Then put the plug back in after you clean it/ confirmed it is clean. Keep at it. Try a few minutes, then if it doesn't start popping, give it a try later. I've never done this, however I did add used motor oil to the bar oil reservoir, and ran it. I mean how could that happen when I used an empty bar oil jug to put used motor oil in? I had to make like 7 cuts on 6" diameter ash logs. I wasn't going to let a little extra nasty bar oil bother me.
I did something similar to a brand new Honda 450x some years back. Broke it in and serviced it (ya know being a responsible owner). I filled up what I thought was the motor oil fill. Turned out to be the gear oil fill. Smoked a valve and piston but my transmission was flawless. Definitely in the top 5 of dumbest things I've ever done.
Yea Been there, Got the “T” shirt. I ran mine till it died, told myself prepping saw for storage ... .... There’s always a little oil in the gas, Now there’s a little gas in the oil, ... Dump add some gas & dump a couple times Pull hose off carb if you can & flush. If not , fill with gas & let set overnight Next day pull plug, choke, pull starter 10 -20 times. Put plug in, should start & blow some smoke for a bit. No harm done to saw, just to ego. Lol
Does it have a primer bulb? I'd think if the oil was dumped out of the gas tank and refilled with gas, you could at least flush the fuel lines and get gas to the carb...might take a bit to run the oil through the carb...could maybe put a small splash of gas in the carb throat, get it to fire a few times...then go on its own?
