My son and I were able to cut some wood in the National Forest this morning. He wanted to earn some money and I love the help. We got three loads in my Ranger - here are some pics of the last one.

National Forest workers have been cutting down some dead trees that may fall in the road. Of course with the EAB many of these are ash trees. My son mentioned how much lighter ash is than oak but we still halved or quartered many pieces before putting them on the truck. There’s another ash tree I want him to help me get soon. I think ash is my new favorite firewood.

Nice looking load! Some primo wood for sure! Do you figure about a face cord per heaping load red oak ? Was considering a Ranger couple years ago prior to my getting my F150.

Yeah that sounds right. I figure 3 loads for 1 cord. I considered a bigger truck but this Ranger was the right deal at the right time. Really hasn’t given me any trouble at all and now that it’s a work truck I’m hoping to get 5-10 more years out of it.

NICE! I see the "blunt impact trauma" in the fist pic. Was that firewood related, did it come that way, or was Mrs. red oak driving at the time?
My PU gets its share of injuries!

I was throwing some wood downhill to the road years ago and a fairly large piece combined with bad aim resulted in that dent. As I said it is a work truck so I barely notice it anymore.
