Unbelievable 70f today, what an awesome day. Spent it splitting 2+ cord at friends place. Another friend came out and cut up some elm and hackberry that was given to him so I split it down to manageable size pieces.

I agree that it’s comparable to silver maple. The smoke is bitter in my opinion. I enjoy the smell of a fire but not catalpa!

Looks like a mess all right! We'll get rain, freezing rain, and snow on the backside but just inch, they're saying. Well Seasoned gets slammed. How about your area?

25 now, headed for 45 allegedly. 9pm load of of silver and sugar maple kept it 74 down here over night. Lots of big coals, so I'll burn them down with a few splits of pine that will look nice while we have breakfast. :)

31° and sunny, headed to 50° today. I'm still working through my shoulder season wood, all done with the top layer of poplar, now into cherry, maple, elm, and Zelkova. IMG_20191110_22980.jpg I'll keep the fire going today, even if I have to open a window upstairs. I want to keep the basement warm for the cat, who seems to have a cold. She's not too perky and sneezing a bit.

Yup! My ugly pile is always the first to go and I got a $#!T load also, about a cord or so. I waist very little from a tree.

It's 27 outside/67 inside. Going 'scrounging' after breakfast. We have written landowner permission to do so on the neighboring wooded property.

A few more days, all the streams and rivers should have enough ice on them for a snow machine crossing. 5DF3023B-7CD4-425E-9DB0-8AD8B56F7BCE.png

Let the fire go out overnight. A bit cool in here this morning but not bad outside at 37.
