I loved my Dad's "69" 383 mag Super Bee, but then there were the Plymouth 426 Hemi Cudas!

Only 11 convertibles were ever made like this 1971 gem set to hit the block soon. This is one of only 2 made that year that had the 4-speed manual transmissions.

Only 1 car was painted in "Plum Crazy" in 1971, this one, one of the 11 convertibles ever made.

    Wow, nice cars!

I saw an old movie for the first time last week, 1997 remake of "Vanishing Point" with Viggo Mortensen. The star of the movie (and the earlier 1971 version) is the same, the original movie's Dodge Challenger 426 Hemi. I love the part of the movie where a local sheriff decides to go after Viggo. Instead of his chevy cruiser, he instead rolls out his personal Charger RT commenting that "it takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar". Challenger against Charger RT, the Challenger won that day!

A guy here in central PA bought a 1970 AAR Cuda 340 six pack with 30,000 miles on it for $30,000. He did a complete frame off restoration accurate to the original Goodyear tires. Goodyear charged him $500 a piece to produce four tires exactly the same as original stock. All numbers matched. Superb restoration. He just sold it on EBay of all places for $248,000. A friend of ours did the independent inspection for the buyer. What a car.

I've never really understood the "numbers matching" car crowd. I'm not knocking it, but it doesn't make the car look better, more fun to drive, etc.

I guess, on the opposite side of the coin, a fake Mickey Mantle autograph looks the same on the ball sitting on your mantle too...and what fun is there in that.

I think the guys dropping a quarter of a million dollars on a classic Mopar are in it for the investment, not for the looks or the fun to drive factor. And collectors looking for an investment value the matching numbers more than the looks.

I'd be more than happy to drive a "fake" Hemi Mopar anything, as long as it runs, drives and sounds like a Hemi and has a Hemi under the hood. But that ain't gonna happen in this life.

Its definitely on my bucket list........................get these girls through college and look out. It will be a "cheap" non-matching runner that "drives and sounds" like it should!

It ain't a Hemi, just a 67 Camaro with a straight six, but this one sits in my dad's garage and we get to drive it any time we like:

    You're right...but I still don't get it....that's just me.

My friend's dad built a Challenger with a 426. None of the numbers matched on anything...but it was as much fun as you can have sitting down.

I couldn't do a numbers matching. Stock sucks! 40 yr old Mopar?! Yeah... Just begging for modern tires, brakes, suspension, safety gear. Etc.

I mentioned in a previous post how my Dad was the first in the WNY area to run Pirelli radials on the 69 Bee before other folks ever heard of them...... (He had an Italian "tire buddy" with family connections in the tire business back in Italy who special ordered them for him) You have to have good tires no doubt. Brakes, suspension, they were adequate when maintained. And what about safety gear ............... you had a seat belt ................... what more do you want? ;) And the etc. -? How about an AM/FM/Cassette player, more fidelity than a CD, I still have a hoard of those!

I had forgotten about that one! Says it was a "70". One of the 11 convertibles I guess!
