Is your MO to bring home bucked logs or lengths? I have to buck and load. Good luck, work safe and keep us updated! Hoard on!
looks like we won't be hearing from you for a while at least until it snows too much or rains too hard
I've found retirement way busier than I anticipated. (A good thing....I think) 4 wide 150’, that’salottawood Skidded dirty logs , arrrrg. Hard on equipment! A long term project of hard work & fun.
Firewood Bandit that's what the logging sites around here used to look (your first three posts) like when the loggers pulled off of the jobs. Nowadays, they are pretty much cleaned up mulched up and almost (…. almost) not worth going in for firewood. It was so easy and quick to grab firewood back then......
The goal is to get as much home before the snow gets too deep. That will shut me down as log landings have zero traffic other than me. If my logger buddies have the forwarder they will load what is on the landing. Otherwise I cut into rounds and pieces small enough that I can handle which is under 100#s. Then I work on it during the Winter.
It was frustrating at first, now I look at dirty wood as the price of admission. It is what it is. The guy on the landing cutting up the whole 40-50' main stem is dealing with the same issue. Sure it hard on chains but as big as this wood is, It makes a log of firewood in short order. The .404 chain stays sharp much longer than 3/8ths.
There is huge amounts of firewood in the tops left in the woods. But with the steep hills around here you need a skidder to get it or at the very least a 80-100HP tractor with a logging winch.
Well wouldn't you know it! Last night I talked to the landowner where the loggers just finished. HE WANTS THAT LANDING CLEANED UP TOO! Going to pull of one site where no one will cut to this one as he might let other people in. Will see what I am in for today.
You're right...you just cant catch a break! Hopefully snow holds off for you. What is your rate of hoarding? PU full daily or???
Would a barking spud be beneficial? Or would that take more time than sharpening chains? Sent from my LML212VL using Tapatalk
This time of year I try and get out about 5 days a week. The F250 with sideracks, heaped to a little over the cab is good for about 3/4 cord. (In the pic, this is a very light load as I was getting the trailer loaded.) Snow is supposed to come tomorrow. Blue skies right now and they are spraying that #%&* brine on the road.
Just switched my Armbru84 MS 660 over to .404 chain to use as a deck saw, can't wait to give it a go!
Report back on how it cuts. Normally I never run semi chisel but considering the dirt am making an exception on this. So far so good.
Both is good. I'm thinking of making a spud with a slightly sharper angle so I can use a two pound hammer on the end and still be able to push with a handle. I'll have to be able to weld properly, first. Sent from my LML212VL using Tapatalk
