Dream come true for me this week. A package from Sweden containing a Hans Karlsson Swedish Carving Axe. Karlsson is a small, limited production Blacksmith in Sweden who produces mostly specialty carving tools. Most often, his site shows nothing in stock & you have to monitor is continuously to jump when anything is listed. Been trying to get one of his axes for over two years now. It's a bit different geometry from the Granfors Bruk carving axe I've been using and a full pound lighter. Really happy so far.
Thanks. Been able to put it through it's paces a little bit since the first post. It is absolutely a keeper. Handles really well, doesn't fatigue my arm and I can work much more precisely than with the Granfors. Grabbed a piece of Wild Cherry from the wood pile and started a large spoon with it. Having much greater control, I worked well past where I normally would have stopped and gone to knives. Can't seam to get a half way decent picture of the spoon no matter what I do... Think it's time to take the iPhone to the rifle range.
Managed to get a couple pictures of the new carving, still rough. Been letting it dry the last few days, it's finally letting me use the knives with some detail. Cherry is a beautiful wood in the end but often a mother biatch to carve with it's wild swirling grain. And... now the site won't let me upload a file. The gods are against me this lifetime. Just all there is too it. Probably my confuser causing the grief. Need to pull the plug and hit it with defibrillators.
Ok, Posting pics of a half finished, dirty carving was bugging me so I finished her up last night. Here posing on top of the other half of the round it was split from. Should mature to this nice dark red/red-ish brown over the next several months.
