28F here this morning. Woke up to a cold wood burner. The black goo boiler had turned on to keep things toasty. The fire had gone out in the Wood Gun. Large splits must not have reignited. Lost the bed of coals. Beech and Ash heating everything back up.
37. Oak and hickory small stuff. Going to be 60 today, just getting the house up to temp. Sent from my LML212VL using Tapatalk
Was messing around with the boiler plumbing trying to purge some air last night and left a valve closed on accident. No heat for the house overnight....dropped about 4 degrees. Boiler is running extra hard trying to get everything caught up. I think i through the last chunk of poplar on there. It was dry, but half rotten. Glad its gone.
One walk done and OWB fired up. Blanket of 2" overnight-sidewalk/driveway/roads don't need plowing but I see the salt trucks are out once again. Right around 32f here.
Heatmor makes great boilers. I burn basswood from time to time too. You can't really make a great fire with just basswood. You need to mix other wood in with it, especially for a non boiler wood fire. If you have totally dry basswood, then it just burns up so fast. Our friend that had us over for trick or treating the Saturday before, gets a face cord of "mixed hardwood" delivered and helps stack for $60. Well, it's dry, not split, and it's all basswood, which isn't hardwood. It burns well, and I guess that's all he cares about.
Yep. Saw that too. I see a low of 19° forecast, and that was even lowered more now. I guess that answers my question if I should take the mower deck off the tractor.
Looks like a half a foot of snow coming in Thursday and the real cold will begin. Seeing single digits this weekend into next week for overnight lows. Canadian border VT, I'm guessing your seeing the same thing eh?
48* os...72* is.....lettin the fire go out....60* s tomorrow...wont relight till wednesday.....then the great chill is suppose to arrive...somewhat.....bbbwwaaaa
First fire in the Kuuma for the season. Currently 46F outside and getting down to 36F with a little load of cherry keeping the house warm. Feels good to be burning again!
If this pans out I may be able to get at some trees I thought I'd never get. Fingers crossed & Catalpa in the boiler.
How does Catalpa burn? I see those trees occasionally in yards in Denver. They are cool looking trees. Always wondered what kind of firewood they’d be?
Forgive me fir I have sinned. We are just above freezing so I decided to not fire up the wood stove today. Instead we turned up the furnace and pulled out the blankets. By the looks of the forecast this is the warmest day of the week so I thought I would be lazy.
Plenty of time coming to make up for it. 19f here but it has dropped 4 degrees in the last two hours. Another dusting of snow.
Similar to a good Pine. Clean & not many coals. Good shoulderwood. Best comparison might be Silver Maple.
