I got tired of walking out to the deck every time I needed a load of wood so I put together this indoor firewood box from reclaimed barn siding. I also saw some tips for fireplace inserts and that said that raking the coals to the front of the firebox makes it burn more efficiently so I made this fireplace hoe. I finally got a chance to do something fun with my torch and welder. The handle is made from steel rods that were salvaged from one of those giant wire spools, heated with the torch and twisted. The hoe portion is just some scrap steel sheet I had and I hit it with the torch afterwards to give it a bit of a patina instead of shiny steel.
Matthew Wheaton welcome to the land of BTU's. That is a great looking fireplace/stove tool. What's with all the cookies?
Everyone loves a good ash hoe!!! Seriously, that ash hoe will serve you well. I have a commercially made one that's undersized, and a bit underbuilt, but I use it every morning at least. The wood box is also a key tool. Nice work!!
Nice size firewood box. One of these days I need to get off my butt and make one. Good job. What does it hold, maybe 3 days worth of burning.
I have no idea how I missed this thread but hope I'm forgiven. And welcome to the forum Matthew Wheaton.
If you drop it, is it a hoe down? Very nice craftsmanship, and welcome to the forum! Thank you for sharing the pictures. Especially the wood box - I'd like to make one similar, on casters so I can wheel it to the door for filling.
