Ok, I know the "Eco-fan" things have been poo-poo'ed in the past, but I'm good with them. I picked up 2 knock-off fans just for when the power gets knocked out. I think they were $32 ea. from Amazon. They are not a replacement to the BKK's squirrel cage fans, but when it's not too cold out- they work. I held a lighter up at 12' and the flame blew sideways, and you could feel the heat blowing that way. Needless to say, I'm pretty impressed with the little buggers. Silent operation also, that's nice also. Anyone else use or have tried these little fans ?
I've got two of them sitting on my fisher baby bear. One is the big $ northern tool and the other is an Amazon knock off. The knock off works better. I'd buy again, they definitely work to move heat around.
I bought my parents a cheap one from Amazon. It works pretty darn good, but after a year it developed an annoying rattle. A family friend gave them one of the nicer ones for their basement stove and it works just as well but is silent. I think they work well for what they are. They're probably as effective as my insert's blower on the lowest setting.
Mine also developed a rattle/wobble. I removed the fan, and tightened a screw that had loosened. Replaced fan and no more rattle.
I’ve had a Valiant Ventum stove fan for about a year now and find that it does help with distributing the heat evenly, let my neighbour borrow it recently and they are now looking to buy one too. Mine also developed a rattle recently but as it was under warranty, the manufacturer ‘serviced’ it and it’s now back to normal. I think that just involves tightened the blade so it was balanced and possibly renewing the thermal paste. I do like them and I can gauge how hot the stove is by how fast the fan is running
Yes, they can move a little air but does it do much good? I have to think about the simple principle of moving the air in the house. If you really want to distribute the air, you move the cool air into the warm rather than trying to move the warm air. Can those little fans do this?
I have 2 "original" Eco fans on my ID. I guess they work but one has the rattle... Maybe next fire up I'll take them off and see if there's a noticeable difference in heat distribution around the house. The fans in action. I didn't buy 2, one was a hand me down from my folks who switched to a pellet insert from and old Fisher slammer.
No, they can't do that Dennis. But, they are able to move the heated air slightly out in front of the stove, instead of right straight up. The 2 we use in the cabin work great, pushing the heated air under the loft. But that is only about 8' out in front and we don't have power. Muffin fans would move a lot more air for sure.
I kicked around the idea of getting one. Knowing that amazon has one for $32 is pretty tempting though, I'll say. But, what I did end up doing is building a convection deck for the top of the stove (curtesy of FHC!!!) and am very pleased with the results. This works in conjunction with the wood stoves distribution fan.

Ones I picked up are- Tomersun- 3-blade. Claimed 150-170 cfm, dependent on stove temp. Those two in conjunction with the ceiling fan on low, working pretty good in moderate temps. When it was cold this week, I put on the convection deck and used the stove fans.
The bk freestanders use a pair of paddle (axial) fans, not squirrel cage fans. They do work well but I would enjoy the novelty of heat powered fans.
Ok, paddle fans works for me. The heat powered fans were originally purchased for the eventual power outage, so a bit of heat could be spread without needing electricity. They work better than expected, but they are not the equal to a "paddle fan" . The lack of noise is probably the best benefit.
