I just picked up some oak last week from a friends house that came down in those tornadoes.

Only if it adds a new "roof hoarding" thread.

It rolled through here later in the evening, got pretty gusty for a while, lots of branches raining down, power flickered a few times but stayed on here. No idea about the rest of the state. Looked at the radar and saw the front that had just passed and was heading straight for CT & Mass. Storm stretched from S. Carolina up through Canada. Was still 72˚ here at 10:00pm and dropped 30˚ by morning. That usually comes with some wind.

We got hammered here in the whites last night & today. Barely slept at all last night. My new pole barn got clipped, no real damage except dented roof.... luckily the tree got stuck in the crotch of another and only the top came down. The chicken coop was almost taken out, luckily here to, tree fell right along side it only grazing it with branches. Alot of poo in that coop this morning! Roads closed, trees and wires down everywhere. Our power is back on thankfully! Be safe!

Had a very large section of a maple tree come down around the corner from me overnight. Couldn’t see it this morning because the street was blocked off. But when I got home this afternoon I was able to see just how bad it was. I didn’t take pics because the homeowners were out in the front yard. The house got clipped and clearly did some damage to the roof and gutters. This maple tree is getting up there in age. It had a companion maple in the other neighbors front yard that split in a very similar way a couple years ago in a similar type of storm. The tree has smallish leaves, and based on the way they have both split, I’m guessing they are silver maples.

I didnt venture that far into North Haven and saw nothing but smaller twigs down. Had to go to Guilford later this afternoon and this was the only downed tree i saw. Right where Guilford, Branford and North Branford meet on Route 1. Old sugar maple. IMG_1251.JPG

    Yep
    Be proactive
Some expect the gov’ts are gonna do everything for them.
Some grab the bull by the horns & get’r done!
    Hoarders are “horn grabbers”

No Brad, that’s not the highly valuable white oak. Just another red floating on its side in a sea of reds. Bummer.
No insurance on that old trailer either. Scrounged that out of a junk pile of my cousins local farm bout 35 years ago. Riddled with bullet holes of course. Cousins were big into full auto.
Used it until the metal body fell apart. I rebuilt it with plywood and PT 4x4’s. Used it till the plywood was shot and posts were wobbly. Rebuilt it again about 2010. Used the red oak I had milled up 17 years earlier before it rotted from neglect.
Still tough as nails that old wagon. Tree didn’t break it. It broke the tree LOL

    still out of power here.

At least you dont have to go far for more wood! Keep ya busy for a while! Did you end up getting any white oak out of the state forest?

Not yet. Rained too hard on Halloween, Today, this morning anyway, was not a good day to cruise around with the trailer. I went out for a cup of coffee at 3.30 am. Did a whole lot of long distance reverse driving.

Wind was pretty strong here in the hills but not as bad as elsewhere across the state by the sound of it. Bud who is a teacher down in Newtown had the day off. Schools closed. Roads blocked and no power in town. This morning I took a walk around the sugarbush. Had a few large limbs from a couple standing dead ash trees come down on the maple lines. Quick fix after a run with the ol’ husky. I hit the deer woods this evening and made the quick decision to exit a tree stand after rocking back and forth in the wind. No thanks. When walking out came across a huge piece off an oak that came down on the quad trail. Figure I’ll get to that tomorrow after everything else is done for the day. Love that this storm brought in some colder weather. First chance of snow in the forecast for next week!
