Ice Box Refrigerator and door to door ice delivery.

I cut ice out of a frozen lake as a teen to store in an underground ice house. We would cover it with sawdust and there would still be ice blocks into September.
I remember my grandmother had an ice box like the white one below on her porch. Didn't put ice in it put great mouse/raccoon safe storage of other goods.

The building my husband works in is the original ice depot here from back then. Next to the train tracks, foundation is 6' deep, ramp for loading/unloading is still there too. I grew up with the term ice box on one side of the family vs fridgerator. Interesting stuff!

My parents also used merthiolate on us. That stung but the mercurochrome didn't.

If that phone had a rotary dial, just think how much more attention it would be getting!

We had the milkman coming to our house. I think I remember the Fuller Brush man showing up too.

My father was the milkman when I was young. Wasn't much longer the dairy stopped door to door and just did stores.

Milkman was Irish. Neighbors were all blonde Swedes. Except for the last child.....yup, redhead! Must've been recessive gene or sumpin?

Hey guys. I was a milkman for a couple of years. Actually made some darned good money at it too but that getting up during the night sort of ruined it. But the biggest thing for ruining it was those Holidays. People still wanted milk... There were definitely some good times but the bad ones did me in. I quit.
