Went out to the village tree pile to dump my ash bucket & scored all of this Osage or hedge. Looks like some rancher threw away a bunch of post ends. Grabbed all there was of it. All of it would fit into an ice cream bucket, but at least I’ll get to try a little bit of it. Do you think I’ll melt my stove if I burn it all at once
Burn half of it this way here only half your stove will melt! Seriously, none around here and curious to hear the results. Will you wait til its colder? Never heard of it being a shoulder season wood?
Already burned 7 of the 9 chunks, they’re not much bigger than my fist, so not enough to really get an honest assessment. But I did like the way it burns. Occasionally I see a semi trailer of hedge posts going by, maybe have to talk to the driver and see if I can get him to “loose” his load in my backyard ..... . As for shoulder season..... hasn’t broke the freezing mark for 3 days and single digit wind chills! I’m thinking it’s burning/heating season. Shoulder season is history. ..... and last year at this time I’d never heard the term before
I like you have learned a lot on here. Never heard the term before i joined. After hearing the temps you're experiencing, id agree that shoulder season is over. Unless thats normal for your neck of the woods at this time of year!
No, this is unseasonably cold. Tomorrow is supposed to start working it’s way back to normal for a while
Hedge is one of the best firewoods there is! Worth a fairly long drive if you can haul a good amount. We're forecast to have well below normal temps for the 10-14 day outlook.
I've been burning pretty much constantly since last Friday. I'll let the stove go quiet and not reload a day or 2 in there, but it's been making hear the whole time. We have temps well below at least 10° below normal, and snow about a month before we typically do. Shoulder season is gone.
And it's snowing a little harder now.... Not really much yet, but since it's early it is significant.
