I sent my ms261c to huskihl back in September just before the Michigan GTG because I wasn't using it and had it boxed up ready to go. Kevin let me know that it would be a couple weeks or so before he started on it with 2 GTG's on the calendar. Once he started we touch bases to discuss what I was looking for out of my ms261c. Kevin provided detailed pictures of the saw coming out of the shipping box, and the work he performed. Going into this Kevon let me know that the mtronics on the 261c didn't always take well trying to add fuel. Kevin said he had a plan, and if it didn't work it he would make it right. Whatever Magic he used it worked. I am very pleased what the outcome. It was going to take a lot to impress me as my primary firewood saw is a AWOL 562xp. I had a chance to run the saw for a few hours today, and I must say it's all I had hoped for and more. It's still easy on fuel, but has the extra torque too lean on it when I want or need to. I'm running a 16" bar and .325 chain. I felled a couple of dead standing oaks and bucked them this morning. The extra sausage ms261c made short work of them. If you are looking for port work you can't go wrong with Kevin (huskihl), aka sausage fingers. Final note, Kevin would not take any money until he was done and ready to ship my saw back to me. That is pretty stand up in my book.
Every builder/porter I've used didn't expect payment till the saw was finished and ready to ship. Good to read you are satisfied with your saw. No surprise considering who done it.
I have to assume the saw is worth more than the port job...Collateral, people been using it for years!!
There have been many stories, a few recently on a specific guy, where people would send their saw and cash or check for the port work. Many customers ended up never hearing from him again. Moral of the story, if a builder asks or OK's cash/check in the box with saw, I'd say it's not a good practice! (His name is Terry Landrum - Wicked Work Saws WWS). Not trying to derail here, just some info for someone who's never dealt with having saw work like this done before. Knowledge is power.
So glad you like it. I can highly recommend huskihl for saw work. He did our sleeper 029 and XS362... 029 with 20" bar XS362 with 28" lite bar, usually run 25" on it.
Thanks much for the useful review. I have the C version as well but since it is such a massive jump up from what I was using, it’ll hold me for a while, I’m sure. I did wonder about the M Tronics fuel adjustment and you answered that nicely. Enjoy!
Not to change the topic but I just picked up what I believe is a similar size model in Husqvarna. It’s a 550 mk.II I have better Husky dealer support where I’m at. I wonder how they’d compare durability & performance wise? Anyone out there have any experience?
I'll add this just because I can. I've got two huskihl ported saws & they are a night & day difference from stock. Kevin's a great guy to do business with & there's no question about the quality of his work or ethics. Nope, ya gotta feel it in those saws.
Farmchuck, A friend has a SCarr ported 550 and I've ran it at local gtg's. Great saw. Like all the 5 series, they are very smooth cutting and handle great. He's been using the saw for a good couple years (not a mkII) and never heard him mention anything about any issues with it.
