    We replaced the mobile home fireplace 5 yrs ago with a Drolet Blackcomb. We haven't used the electric heat since, does a great job. Built up the hearth and made it wider, the original diagonal wall was where the stone goes to the top.     Nice set up you have. Do those inserts put off a lot of heat like the free standing wood stoves? I’ve heard some people say that they don’t.

    An insert will radiate heat outward like a fireplace. Being freestanding a stove radiates out in all directions for the most part.
    An insert is basically a wood stove that fits inside your existing fireplace.

    Inserts with circulating fans can come close to the heat output of a freestanding stove. The mass of a fireplace will also soak up and re-radiate heat.
