My hunny finally said she was cold this morning. Just what I wanted to hear. Built a small fire with a little pine and a few tulip poplar splits Shredded paper, splinters and a couple pieces of super cedar that we got at Backwoods Savage GTG . First flames, such a beautiful sight Secondaries kicking in now Love watching the ghost flames Just enough for today.
Nice Jeff. We too have a fire going. The warmth feels good. Seems we've had a morning fire for the last couple of weeks. Today and tomorrow supposed to be in low 60's but rain tomorrow. btw, you only need half of what you have for the super cedar to do it's thing. Make them last as long as you can.
Maybe 58-60°, cool and damp feeling inside. It was 41° Friday morning. Glad it died down by the time we got home from church.
T.Jeff Veal, we only use a quarter of a super cedar. Found that to be plenty. Actually ordered from FHC. I really like them. I got ours intially from Dennis GTG also.
Try some dried pine cones....i use them on occasion...super cedars are good. We still have a half a box from 2 years ago..
I usually have splinters of that fat pine wood like we brought to GTG in Michigan on hand, haven't chopped any this year......
Nice fire!! I’ve probably got maybe 30 years worth of that fatwood so you won’t see me going out to buy any fire starter anytime soon. A big believer in less is more, fatwood the size of a couple toothpicks works best especially if your kindling isn’t much wider than your 4 year old daughters fingers. I love cedar here for what it worth. The scores of fence panels and cedar shingle cut offs is the greatest stuff I can use.
I am a firm believer in keeping the Wife warm (any way I can). This AM I didn't start a fire as it was a little warmer than lately at 51* outside. Wiff came downstairs and said "What? No fire? I built one up right away. Warm Wife, Happy life! Keep up the good work Jeff.
Our fat wood comes from old growth long leaf/slash pine stumps. Trees don't grow long enough now to make any. Luckily I still have one whole stump left, cut one up and carried to Michigan GTG.
