I bought a zerk zapper this past week, it arrived and I tore open the package with my hands eagerly to marvel at my new tool. Upon inspection I noticed 2 slices in the handle from what looks like a straight blade to me. Obligatory picture.. So I emailed the company with this and another picture. Explaining as I did above. Their response was "thanks for the heads up.Sometimes the vinyl is not perfect, if it bothers the working of the tool let us know. We will replace it. Sorry we didn't notice it." I doubt this will effect the working of the tool, at least this early in the game. That isn't so much the point. I'm kind of bewildered at their response. I know a lot of you guys have farm equipment or older equipment in general and this tool may be of use to some of you. But you may not want to buy from these guys. They could have offered something anything, instead of blowing it off. 1) why are they using bad vinyl 2)why would they ship out an item like this? I should have added a poll, Would you buy this tool knowing it may be damaged before you receive it?
I would ask for a replacement, or at least a partial refund if they don't want to replace it. I'm not familiar with the name "Zerk Zapper", is that the tool used to inject oil into plugged up zerks? Those work pretty well...
If there were 6 of them on the shelf in the store and the top one looked like that I'd dig down for one with no cracks. If they all looked like that I might have pause to purchasing it. If it is just a superficial cut then it is probably NBFD, but if it is a crack then that usually leads to failure. Maybe whomever responded thought it was just cosmetic ?
Well I googled the product, found a lot of people disappointed with it. After reading how it is used and what it cost, I think I will stick with just replacing the zerk for 50 cents.
Its not so much that the zerks get stuck (although they do) but that the grease passage beyond the zerk gets "plugged up" with hard grease. This is usually more of a thing on heavy equipment...especially if it is not greased enough, or wrong type of grease used.
Yes that is exactly what it does. When I sent the email to show them, I had hoped their response was going to be send it back or give a partial refund. Unfortunately for a tool that the warranty is "if damaged in anyway we were replace it" they just said as I posted above, thanks for the heads up.. Pretty bad customer service and it's made in the usa..
Exactly, my latest truck I bought has a fitting that won't take grease, so I thought I'd give this a try instead of trying heat.
I can’t imagine that they get too many similar calls often. They should have just sent you a new one with not many questions asked. They could have gotten a free commercial here!
So the plastic has to be just a cosmetic cover, right? No way a plastic body would take that kind of pressure
yep it's just cosmetic. It's all steel with that orange handle/cover. I guess to make it easy to see? Maybe to soften vibration when smacking it? I would hope they wouldn't but it makes me wonder if they actually are producing these in the USA or if they outsourced them to China and unbox them here? I just can't see how it could get sliced like that unless they were in a box someone opened with a utility knife. I don't know honestly. It came to me in a padded envelope and was in a ziplock bag.
Good news and redemption for this company. The owner replied back and admitted his son probably sliced it when they were shipped to him. They are shipping another tool to me. They didn't ask for this one back but I offered to send it back anyway. I don't want a handout, I only wanted what I paid for. That is a great rebound in my opinion. I'm looking forward to using this and seeing if it will free up my tierod.
