Dropped 2 outta the 8 dead rock oaks yesterday.....had to get it started...
Last Thursday..we had high winds n limbs from these blocked the driveway when we each left to go to work...

Got it all split n stacked.....a small amount was punky....thats fire pit wood.
All the bark on the larger pieces popped off..very clean wood...
Got about 40% of a cord out of it....

Never cut chestnut before. Does it split like regular red oak?

yes...some of the nicest wood i have ever split....even the knarly off shoots dont split bad. Chestnut oak is in the White oak family...but not the same...if that makes any sense....:faint:

learned that recently on the forum. There is a dead one along our driveway and ive asked landlord if i could cut it down. Winter project. I always thought the deeply furrowed bark was cool.
Did it have any whiskey smell like the classic white oak?

Nice bear 1998 and I really like that picture of the driveway. Typical fall.

I was thinking about you last night while deer hunting when 2 tom turkeys walked past me at 15 yards. Stupid birds...

Nice load of oak. It's nice when mother nature drops stuff for without any major damage.
