I cut a tree down today and was bucking the section of the tree that is hollow when I noticed what looked like red wet chips. I stop cutting and a raccoon runs away. I walk around and on the other side I see another raccoon head... I cut him up... 927FF2CF-FB68-42CD-BEDD-EB7E7D3F978D.jpeg 300619ED-472C-4105-9CED-F5B3529A94CA.jpeg 016DE391-F9B2-4FF2-805C-61EA9A190194.jpeg

On a side note, anyone know what kind of tree this is? Standing dead with no leaves, about 32” dbh.

Sad but seems unavoidable under the circumstances

It was likely dead before the saw cut.

No help on the wood ID.

Be careful, raccoons stick together. You’ll have 20 of them at your house tonight looking to kick butt!

Nope, public service as far as I'm concerned. Filthy destructive disease carrying vermin. Nice load of shoulder wood you'll get outta that tree!

Poor lil guy, atleast it was quick. We had 3 babies climbing our screen door that feasted off the insects drawn to my porch light. Then they got bold, came out in daylight and ran our cat off and I could not let my dogs could not do their business outside. We trapped 2 and were using a hose to deter the last one and my dog broke through the screen and grabbed him. Happy trails in heaven lil guy and thank God for rabies shots for my dogs. Agreed he's better off.

A big, nasty old coon tangled with my barn kitty, Wild Thing some years back. Wild Thing was a rat-chompin' terror and wouldn't back down even against a dog. I found blood on the floor of the barn--not sure if it was Wild Thing's or the coon, but the coon never came back. I'd have shot him if I'd seen him.

I’m surprised I’ve never seen any coons in my in-laws grove when I’m cutting. There’s crap all over the place and some of the trees I drop are hollow even see some coon hair in a tree, but no coon. I agree, coons are no good, worthless PIA!
