Buderus Logano G115 with a Riello BF3 with a mizerly 0.40gph nozzle and with a horizontal exhaust with outside air.
I think the boiler is rated at 87% AFUE, but every year when they clean it they document the efficiency at the probe terminal with a meter and it comes up at 90.6% or 90.7%, plus all Co,NOx, etc outputs. I didn't get the slip of paper this year. Could be that's not AFUE but some other measure of efficiency, all I know is this combination sips fuel compared to what I had. Cut my oil use to 1/3 of what it was - part of that is the Buderus 2 coil tank water heater on a zone rather than tankless.

billb3 I have a buderus with zone for hot water.. my house cannot be certified as energy star because you have to have a AFLUE rating of over 91% that's why I asked.. Yes mine test 90%+

They were getting it north of you in Hayward today so your time without snow is closing down. :)

So, if you go to sell you have to weigh the cost (and gamble) of switching to propane to get the Energy Star Certification to try to/maybe get 10 or 30% more for the house ?

With the ( wildly fluctuating) cost of propane here I wouldn't want it, but I live near the south coast so the HHO barged up from NY/NJ doesn't have the delivery costs incurred by further transportation. Gasoline is a few pennies less here for the same reason.

billb3 it's more to make new construction not use oil. All new houses here must be 5 star to get cert of occupation. Requires a heater minimum efficiency 92%. Even though its costs more to heat.:picard:

The fire's been going in my house for a couple of hours already. With the freeze warning, it was needed.

While I was splitting ash for next year, it started to pellet ice on me. 41° outside now.

First firplace fire tonight with wood much dryer than years past. Set aside smaller splits and stacked them on the cordwood style stack. Burning very nicely! Fire welcome the wife as she arrived home.

Those buderus boilers are mega efficient. We have a crown branded buderus gas boiler that's super efficient. The biggest issue is if anything guess wrong, it's hard to find a dealer around that understands them. Nearly all the boiler techs in the northern part of the state only understand the old tech not so efficient boilers, but we found one after I couldn't replicate a problem that was sporadic and wouldn't occur when I was visiting.

    I saw that.

The ice pellets that were hitting me this evening right before dusk was close enough.

Just had the first one this morning. Awoke and looked at the outside patio thermometer and it read 13 degrees! I knew just what to do next. Had our first fire of the year with a nice cup of coffee. Second one is going tonight right now.

Sorry all, but I failed. Mid 30's yesterday and a low of 32 last night. Started the furnace for now as it should only be a day or two. House was still 67 when the request came in for some heat.

The dog woke me up at 0430 and I couldn’t go back to sleep. One thing led to another....

First fire was yesterday. Came in and house was at *60 and outside at *53. Figured I wasn't going to get any solar warming so I set a fire.
Don't know what is different except the wood and I choked the air down more than normal, but the AS was working perfectly. Cat kicked in and then reburn started. Had temp up to *70 in no time. *73 8 hours later. Figures crossed that it works like that all season.
The weather outlook looks like I will be having evening fires into the foreseeable future.
