These are the 330 gallon ones... stacked pretty tight and high under the lids. Hold just over 1/3 cord. I have 8 more loaded, but not sure how ready they will be for this year. Not sure how much I will go through. Plus my propane is only 89.9 cents per gallon... may use some of that too.
But a 5 gallon bucket of small size stuff like limbs and twigs will heat the house for the whole day..... for now.
Double it. My first year I burned 6 cord. Last year, maybe 3... I have 5 cord ready for this year...kind of worried it won't be enough for the way I want to burn this year. My first year I loaded the stove at least 4 times a day, and i mean stuffed it, probably 7 or 8 medium splits each time. Never let it go down less than a good bed of coals. Last year I tried to conserve a bit. Wife was complaining about the lack of 75 degree air in the house. She resorted to turning on the electric baseboard in the bathroom and bedroom at least once a day. Then I complained about the lack of numbers in our checking account....
If I have to load this AS 4 times a day with 7-8 splits , Woodstock and I are going to have a talk !!!
Enough wood is a foreign concept to me. Propane at that price I wouldn't worry about it. Get more wood if you want or ride it out and see how much you use. Then you'll know what you need for the following years.
At .89 per gallon on the pane you're getting a deal! I'd bet the AS & new house you'll make it. Some of that remaining 8 cord will be good by spring. You load that stove more than three times in 24hrs you'll cook your self out lol.
I say add to it every little chance you can. I ran out of room at our house, and to keep my wife happy (and prob the neighbors) I started keeping my future stash at my dads house... I'm just dreading hauling all of that CSS wood back to my house in the near future. And I am still adding to it... Wish I had more than a 1/3 acre.
A few years back when home heating oil was under $2 a gallon I was seriously considering selling my well seasoned oak and heating with oil. Some people burning pellets have the same conundrum. DO you decision just by the wallet or by what you prefer.
I thought 'enough' was about 10 more cords than you have on hand at any one time, no matter how much you have
