Checked out CL last night and saw an ad for free ash from October 4., 5 minutes from my house. (Like I dont have enough to split and stack)Dont know how I missed it! Thought this is gone. Contacted and person said about 12 logs left. First come, first serve.
Lets just say where this house is, many of the homes have tennis courts under lights, vineyards etc...
So I texted my sister and BIL and asked if trailer was free. Yep. Had some comp time and left work early.
Went by house on way to get trailer and someone is there cutting. Crap!. Too late. I stopped anyway and chatted. Real nice guy. Asked if he was taking it all. He said no way, his trailer was pretty much full. He said he may come back another day but he lived kibd of far.
So off I go to get trailer and of course it wasnt freed up. Had a ton of mulch on.
So what does a member of the FHC do? Raced back to my house and took seats out of Tahoe and grabbed a tarp.
Went back and started to cut (guy was kind enough to already cut some rounds for me).
Had to noodle a lot because these ash trees were decent size.
Got 2 tahoe loads out of it tonight. Hope to go back tomorrow. Rouge cherry was in pile, so I took that.

Thats the FHC spirit Biddleman , we improvise and overcome when wood is involved. Shouldve posted pics in the "car hoarding thread". FHC members who use their cars/SUV's etc to haul wood. Very popular thread. Midwinter , Urban Woods & mrfancyplants would be proud!
Great score and you can never have enough wood BTW!

Great way to improvise. To bad the trailer wasn't free. Get what you can. Nice score.

Some of it was. A couple logs were completely bare. Could see the sign of ash boerer. Some of it I couldnt find any evidence of ash boerer and the bark was harder to remove.

Back for some more sweet ash!

Another guy was cutting and took smaller stuff. Left me with some huge logs and gnarly. No problem when you're a hoarder:D some not cut to ideal length but it'll get used just the same.

Pics of this haul and whats left.

Went back to ash score. No one else was there. The guys that I saw before said the large logs left would need a tractor.:zip:

    Just a little left. :D
    And most will need noodling

It pays to stay quiet sometimes...that ash should split easy without noodling.
