Just joined up. Name is Stoveshamster Great site. I got turned onto it by fellow member and Long Island Stovesman, Stoveaclause. (he's a head case). I have a hook up with 2 local Golf Course superintendents and a Tree Company who beg me to take their wood The Courses alone take down over a hundred trees per year and I have my pick of all the hardwoods so i can be selective and share with my friends. Hate living on Long Island Too many people and traffic. I get away to the country whenever I can. You'll find me burning every night from October thru April in my Insert. Have about two chords of mixed Oak, Cherry, Maple, Ash and some Birch. Otherwise I'll be fishing and hunting in the winter. Look forward to learning and sharing pictures and stories.
Stoveshamster welcome to the land of BTU's. Sounds like you got a good thing going with the wood hook ups.
Welcome to the site Stoveshamster... You have a great source of firewood with those golf courses and the tree service... I enjoy my time in the country as well.
Hello and welcome Stoveshamster . Great to have you here. You find many knowledgeable and humorous folks on here. I fall into both, sometimes more than the other. From the sound of things you have some great connections lined up. I can agree on the LI traffic. Attended a monthly function in Melville in 2011. Early AM ride down was fine, but the ride home was white knuckled on the LI expressway! Im one town up from New Haven.
Welcome theres alot of great people here. i left long island 18 years ago. I grew up in Ronkonkoma with the Li expressway in my front yard, mc arthur airport in my backyard with the compost facility and the Ronkonkoma Railroad. Now i own 6 acres of heaven with a river and waterfall in Mason NH. I grew up hunting and fishing long island, stripers and blues in the fall run baby. My brother still lives there and is a big bowhunter.
Welcome to the forum Stoveshamster It sounds like you have an excellent source for firewood even if it a bit crowded where you live. It is nice having your pick of hardwoods. New to forum so please allow me to introduce you to some helpful reading. You can read it online or even download it in pdf form: Primer on Woodburning by Backwoods Savage
Parents have 11 acres on the top of a mountain in Ulster County NY. Place called Olivebridge. They have 6-8 chords of split ash at all times and the Esopus Creek (fullof trout) is my fly fishing Nirvana. Including a few wild brook trout way up high in little trickles I keep secret
Yeah tons of wood. I feel bad not taking more cause it goes to waste. I just cherry pick the best sections and rounds. I forgot that I have tons of Locust too
Welcome! Thanks for joining us. sounds like you're all set for wood with your sources! Would love to see some pics of your stacks and burning setup. We love pics here! Is it "Stoves Hamster" or "Stove Shamster?" If you're taking votes, I'll vote for " Stoves Hamster."
Stoveaclau$ would love to hoard with Buzzsaw one day. It would be an honor. Who knows maybe one day Stoveaclaus will gift Buzzsaw with some kindling!
