    Can’t say I blame them.

May want to make up more signs. Had an interesting idea. Place signs on all the scores you want. If a landowner wants the wood they’ll toss your sign out and put there own on it. Or start moving the wood. Saves all that knocking on doors stuff. I mean it doesn’t hurt to try contacting the owner but sometimes they’re never home or who owns the property is unclear. If after a couple days the sign is still there chop away.

This may sound rude to many. Hey it’s Ct,,,pretty close to NY :)
How it works here is many municipalities are cutting dangerous trees along the roads. These cut trees belong to the town or electric company. The tree services are supposed to inform the homeowner that if they want the wood they need to put signage on the pile. I know they never informed me but if you ask the cutters this is the spiel.
The town or utility company then will come along and remove the wood. Could be next day, could be months.
They are usually more than happy to have someone take it.

I am not a scrounger, but for that hickory, I believe I might go for it.

Im guessing a half cord. Took about half of it yesterday and rather hastily loaded the truck. Normally ill "sardine pack" the bed as youve seen in my past posts. Ill post pics of todays load later. Sprinkles here, but light rain shouldnt impede this hoarder.

My best figuring says that you packed up and moved from some far off Place to Connecticut, just for the incredible free wood.

Hey dont compare us with NYers and dont forget about Massachusetts.
Ive thought of that, but get more than enough W/O doing that. The wood i discovered two weeks ago i still sitting untouched...massive piles of red oak. Asplundh is still cutting right around the corner. Felling 36" red oaks. I was cutting Tuesday and the guy two house up walks over and asks me if i wanted more. Also wanted me to quote him to buck all the oak (which i did and left my number) from the first tree as he only had 16" bar on his saw. He already had a two cord mound of wood in his back yard. Two more equal sized trees being cut in his front yard today. He wanted to find a miller to take the oak trunk and i told him about our experiences and wished him well on it.

Can’t live between those two states without a little rubbing off ya know.

One of those harbor freight sawmills popped up on FB marketplace. $850 needs a little work which is standard straight out of the box. Most Chinese stuff needs to be reworked. Almost pulled the trigger but remembered I have no real need for it.

That’s the biggest shag bark I’ve ever seen! Still admiring those pics.

I completed the "when it rains" score. Took my splitter over to my dad and he was going to get some help and get started. Haven't been back since.
My boss wanted me to wait for fall on the “new oak honey hole”. I was at a race track this past Sunday watching him do a track day and he had an off. Guy in front of him went down mid turn. Tony literally ran over the guy at his chest! So I think I’ll be waiting a while to get back there. (Both were ok)

And I’ve been slowly sawing up my neighbors trees. Pines are huge and a pain to pull limb. The heat has slowed me. And the poison too. Got a second small spot on my arm getting after the maple. I cut the vines at the base and hope the leaves will dry up.

That’s the last pics I took. Made some progress on the 2 pines, no pics.

I have no real need for more firewood, another chain saw, a GF ...oops went too far on that last one!
Im surprised Joe. You have the room and ability to move tree trunks. Also, you like to tinker and you have time! Cool hobby for you IMO.
Check out the prices for locust lumber! I priced decking and one by stock.Google Image Result for https://rlv.zcache.com/stirring_the_pot_postcard-rc40965b31d5a4e818e0b914f6d5857e7_vgbaq_8byvr_540.jpg

Thats scary...the accident that is. Glad all are okay. I hear ya on the heat. Summer like here yesterday. Cold and rainy today.
Poison ivy can be caught even when vines are dry. Dunno if i ever got it that way. The shag had a bunch around it. Lots of long dead vines.

Went today in the rain and cut the rest. Out of state the next couple of days and wouldnt be able to sleep knowing its still there!!! Only sharpened the 261 last night so it went solo. Got to the score and realized i should have the 460. 18" rounds and noodling required to half them to load. 2/3 were too gnarly for the log blaster. Even though it was only a mile back to the house i said the heck with it and ran a tank and a half of gas through it. Not the best for noodling. Sawdust jammed right away in back. Sawdust chute too small IMO. I did okay though. Plenty of knotty/gnarly logs in this load. More noodling ahead as i cant easily split these. IMG_1056.JPG IMG_1057.JPG
full load today (half cord) and at least 3/4 cord for the score. IMG_1058.JPG
Glad i saw this and it wasnt in line with one of the cuts. Some staining through the grain like oak. The closest cut had the purplish color.
