Well... I’m unsure when the next one will come up but the seller has told me less than 20 fires has been burned in this. Tell me what you think. Only a few hours south from me.
Says its immaculate, I haven’t seen it in person its on an ad but not extremely far. Next state down yes. Not to mention with delivery fees reaching 500 or so even on discount, we’re looking at almost half price here. What would an overfire look like here?
Better just buzz on down there and have a look Bring cash. In 20 dollar bills. Flash the amount your willing to spend like a hand of cards. Do the deal...…….
Well is there a starting point? The seller said that he switched to pellets. I don’t want to pay full but I don’t want to lowball either.
Looks pretty great from here. Check for cracked stone and metal, warped parts in the top of the stove, and smooth operation of the controls.. Can't imagine too much has gone wrong in twenty fires, but due diligence is important. For negotiating, decide on your top price and start a few hundred below that. I agree with the "cash in a paper bag" method of negotiation. It's hard to say no to a couple bundles of bank-strapped twenties. The seller has probably already decided on his low price, so once you hit it - hopefully less than full asking price - you're in.
So, you either take his word for it that it's only had 20 fires, or not. Negotiate accordingly. It's still a used stove, after all. How long has he had it......what's the year of manufacture? Why did he go to pellets? If you don't mind the price, take that much with you. If you get it for less......bonus.
So it’s an inheritance, stove is a 2007 and says he still has the manual to it. Not that it matters but it was his wife’s grandmothers so I’m 50-50 on that but usually folks of that measure tend to take care of their things decorative or functional. Does the year matter? If I were to get this, would getting a new cat for it be a good idea? Did the models change from 2007 to now? I’m asking Backwoods Savage since he’s got one.
Well it's not new, so find the price you want to pay, and go from there. Fwiw I got my insert and the SS liner for a less than 500. Quite a bit less really. The receipts for the stove were ~3000. The SS liner kit new is about $400. I know Woodstocks are great stoves, but they depreciate too.
He's probably in bed by now...might not be on here much this weekend, unless he checks in here in the morning...this weekend is the Ohio GTG...
Quick answer as I have to head to hospital. It is worth it but for sure it is too high for the price being used. I'd jump at it if 1800 or less.
Nice stove. I agree w Dennis, $1800 or less would be ideal since it's 12 years old but looks like its in good shape. Does it come w the chimney pipe? If you do get it be sure to take the cat out while transporting if it's ceramic (ask me how I figured that one out ). Woodstock sells a complete gasket kit and I'd probably pick up a new cat too unless it was replaced recently.
Yes they do and to include that they are somewhat like a car, just less moving parts. Even some engines are gems still sitting around. That being said he will still keep the stove up and entertain offers. I will have to wait until end of October to chase this. I’m headed down that way for a function and will be easier to do that than do it a weekend with no other goal.
