I'm looking at buying some type of snake/ jetter device. Youngest daughter's house has some tree root issues. Anyone shine some light on this subject? Will a jetter fit into normal house pipes?
The baby ones will. You have to match your pressure washer to the nozzle size too. I use root killer on roots...works good...not an immediate fix though. If its plugged up, jet it out, then apply root killer immediately. If not done right away the roots start to heal up and the scar tissue doesn't absorb the root killer as well later on. Get the foaming root killer...or you can add a foaming agent to it. Root killer can be done once every year or two, once you get on top of it...
make sure you use the extension pipe behind the nozzle, if not it can turn around and come back at you. watch the pressure water jet will cut PVC and clay tile. if you have that many roots the pipe is compromised and might be worth digging up and replacing. you can get nozzles from 1/2" and up.
and start at the exit if possible because all the debris will be going back at you, look at how the nozzle works. pulls it self in then you pull it back flushing everything back.
Oh, and for anyone not familiar, root killer wont hurt the tree...just kills the roots inside the pipe. Never seen it hurt any tree...at all.
Yes...but it doesn't take much of a "hole" at all for them to get in...I've seen roots inside perfectly good SDR35 (gasketed) PVC sewer pipe joints! Unless you want to dig the line up (not always a real option) a $10-20 every year or two root kill treatment solves the issue. This is how municipal sewer lines with roots in are commonly treated...only its a commercial grade root killer that lasts 3 years.
