Ive been working their cutting five minutes from me (see thread Asplundh giveth, buZZsaw taketh away!) On my way home two weeks ago i found a couple small logs from their cutting around the corner quarter mile from my driveway. Last Tuesday more and Wednesday, i find even more (logs on pallets) The next day they had felled a small (14" DBH) bitternut hickory so i stopped and asked homeowner if they were keeping the wood. Lady was very nice. Let me cut and park in her driveway. I go Friday morning to cut up the hickory and Asplundh is there felling the oak. I talked to the crew chief for a bit and watched them fell the big (24"DBH) red oak stalk. They hastily leave wood all over and im watching where it will land. Three guys pulling the rope and one cutting. I see the line of fall and it will land it on the pile but roll into the street. He finishes the cut, falls over, rolls to the street and into their truck with a good thud. Now im going nuts wanting to go mark the log as i KNOW how they buck them into random lengths. Guys wouldnt let me past the cones. I then leave and come back later to find this. Big oaks bucked from 24-30". . The bitternut hickory as i found it. Some beech from the neighbors tree, which i grabbed at the time. Went yesterday afternoon and cut a load of oak. Load reminiscent of my former epic honey hole. When i left. Ill cut the rest today. Bunch of cookies and nuggets as usual. One of my MAJOR gripes about roadkill. I opted to cut my 16" lengths rather than split the difference and end up with a lot of shorties. Couple of spruces they felled on the other end of the yard. Wont touch these. I know there's a few PNW members yelling at me right now for that! Sorry guys!
That’s some nice wood Brad. Yeah I hate the weird cuts too but that’s still some nice wood. The missus should be pleased LOL
It took me a few years to finally realize my wife is always right. I do what im told and i get rewarded with what is my longest hoarding streak yet. 1 full load of wood out of the quarry from 9/16 - 9/30 everyday except 9/19 & 9/20 (our birthdays and my son and wife share a birthday) Actually 9/23 was a load of red oak from the wife's friends house. I estimate the pile at 7- 8 cords. 13 truckloads. I know the dates cuz i keep a hoarding journal of course.
LOL Only thing thats ever worked for me is the 50 minute drive between our houses and the once weekly visit
I HATE WHEN PEOPLE CUT THEM INTO WEIRD SIZES. I WENT TO GET WOOD FROM THE GOLD COURSE LAST YEAR AND ONE OF THE HANDS THERE CUT EVERYTHING 10-12 INCHES LONG LOL. WHAT THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THAT? NICE SCORE THOUGH. P.S SORRY FOR THE CAPS. MY WORK COMPUTER IS CAPS ONLY LOL
First woman i dated after me and the ex separated lived in Bridgeport and me in Wallingford....45 minutes! We lasted a year but absence made the heart grow fonder!
