I went today and cut up the sugar maple. It was a yard tree and rather knotty. Im thinking i shouldve left it but oh well. I have a cord of sugar from Fridays score and i might as well make an area to stack it all together. Hour and a half cutting and loading. First pic when i got there. IMG_0941.JPG
IMG_1028.JPG had to sledge and wedge most of the big uns. Wedge popped out of a couple after a few whacks so i cut a kerf to start. Never tried that before. IMG_1027.JPG
Chain hopped the bar on the 460 when i cut the kerf. Cant remember last time that happened. It was properly tensioned. IMG_1030.JPG
261 was looking lonely so i let it in on the action. Liking it more and more. IMG_1029.JPG
logs 261 cut. Even noodled a couple with it. IMG_1031.JPG
Even broke the 4lb sledge. Shouldnt have had that extra bowl of Wheaties this morning! Handle is only a couple months old! IMG_1034.JPG IMG_1033.JPG Decent haul. Maybe half cord. Several will have to be noodled...knotty!

After my haul today, two of the four yards still have the wood. The two with the most oak. Debating on them. Big logs and a mess, but convenient.

Great to get wood like that. There is no better exercise than cutting and splitting wood.

Yep their crews move quick and efficiently cutting to random lengths not making it easy for us hoarders. I try to keep all my cuts between 14" and 18" for consistency so my stacks aren't too messy, I give myself a pass as I'm new to hoarding.  I live on Pool Road pretty close to Bassett. How about you buZZsaw BRAD ?

Well hello then neighbor! Not too far away from me at all. If you're looking for more wood after these Asplundh scores (of course you are  ) there's a guy on Rimmon Road with a decent amount of maple in his front yard. I grabbed about a cord's worth this spring and from his craigslist add it looks like there's more to be had. ((((((Free Fire Wood))))
My property is too small to handle much more wood without the girlfriend making a stink about me taking over the backyard so have at it

So what, you went about 48 hours without a scrounge, after your honey hole closed?

I saw that ad on Craigs List. Was it silver maple and sugar from two different areas of his yard? Turn onto Rimmon and its a couple driveways on the left? If so i looked at that back in April and refused. Too many nuggets/shorties etc. Im OCD about 16". There's plenty of wood around to be had NBNH. If you need more, let me know and ill drop a load off or we could meet up and go hoarding. Always a pleasure to meet a fellow FHC member. Met a couple other fellow Connecticut members last month.

Yep that's the house. I was there in February I believe and took a bunch, probably a bunch of my shorties in there. :D Good to know I'm not the only neighbor in the area scrounging wood! I'm still processing some red maple from a recent score and I think my coworker is going to cut a few trees in his yard soon so I'm set for now but I'll let you know. Happy Hoarding:axe:
