I did spend a couple weeks going back and forth to Waterbury, but didn't want to spend time in a hotel, so there was no scrounging time.. I'm also now in a company car, so not conducive to hoarding. Company pays a very favorable mileage rate, so with my new position requiring a lot of driving (5500 miles since the second week of August), they found it cheaper to give me a Santa Fe and a gas card. No complaints here - never driven a brand new car before. And I get to use it on personal time with the covered gas and insurance. Puts a damper on my long distance hoarding game, but again - not complaining! It is a pretty sweet deal.
I loaded up a monster load at a property where the tenant told me the land lord told him to get rid of those trees laying around if he wants to...landlord drove by while we were loading...called the tenant and told him to leave the rest because he wanted it...I thought it was funny he didn't pull over and confront the 6' 4" chainsaw operator... Supposedly he later recalled telling tenant to get rid of wood...I dunno, I had my load so I skedaddled...
there is a college campus across the street and the young lady i talked to had told the tree guys to take it away. Been there for at least two weeks as ive spied it a few other times.
The power companies have gotten a lot more proactive about keeping their lines cleared of trees since a bunch of NH towns sued about power failures after the ice storms a few years ago. The power company in most of NH is owned by a company in CT
it is beyond annoying especially with all the big uns. REALLY shies me away from it as i end up with a bunch of nuggets/cookies etc. Wish i could cut my 16" lengths and leave the rest, but ill spend more time wrestling the logs than cutting them. The nice long trunk has been cut and taken.
They have a very aggressive tree cutting/trimming campaign going since we had an early blizzard years ago when the leaves were still on the trees. People were with power for weeks in some spots. It’s about time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think that was 2011. Hurricane/TS Irene hit in August then two months later the ice/snow in October. Knew some one from Vernon that had to go to Branford to get a motel. He went over a week W/O power. Ours was out for a couple hours from Irene and 11 from the ice. Weve since has the microbusrt in June 2015, tornado in May of last year so yes they have been going nuts cutting back. A lot of neighborhoods around here are heavily wooded. Great for us hoarders. How about up your way mirnldi ?
They are cutting everywhere. Litchfield county, Hartford county that I see. They left a bunch of standing dead ash. There on the hook for a giant ash next to my service pole in my driveway as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Tree/power companies are much more active towards Worcester than in Hippy Valley - same to the west of us. Passed a vacant lot today in Palmer with two ash trees dropped. Someone spray painted all of the pieces with "DO NOT TOUCH!" and there were 3 "NO TRESPASSING" signs posted. Wood pirates gone wild around here. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a trail cam watching it.
I was chatting with a crew today GrJfer and asked the guy what is the correct way to say the name. Its Azz plund
Ahh yes...the ole Azz Plund...as in my azz just plund down in this chair and gonna read some FHC now!
I have relied on PG&E (power) and Caltrans (highway dept.) for a large part of my wood supply. As part of the wildfire mitigation program, they are logging the Caltrans right-of-way, which abuts the PG&E easement. What can't be milled is being chipped for co-gen. My (almost) private woodlot is disappearing.
i survived! Dids lots of processing, had a fire outside last night. Even talked to Ms. buZZsaw...once! Im not sure which is more addictive...hoarding or the forum!
buZZsaw BRAD Asplundh has been leaving wood everywhere recently, especially in my neighborhood. I have a small amount of land but I've managed to find more room to stack a couple more cords from all the little scores from their leftovers recently. Mostly red and sugar maple and a little oak. Some of it has been a pain due to the way they cut/trim but hey it's all free wood can't beat it!
I have a friend with a tiny European stove, he gets all the odd ends from when I cut the pieces to my 17" size. Odd lengths is standard for a scrounger.
Ive been cutting on Pond Hill and Bassett. Pulled six good PU fulls so far including two today. Have another tomorrow as well. Tell me about their hasty cutting...drives me insane. I watched them fell a nice huge oak trunk last week. It rolled onto the road and into their truck. I left and later found they bucked it into "nice" 24-28" lengths. I wanted to scream. . I cut 16" consistent. Measure and mark with chalk. I cut that late this afternoon. Where abouts are you located NBNH ?
