I just came from my neighbors house and she's a sweet lady at 86. She's fixing up her house to leave to her grand kids but she called me to come down and look at an estimate. A particular "Gutter" company thats on TV that deals with leaf's and talks about "free" installation and a dinner gift card was at her house. "THANK GOD" she didn't pull the string. She owns a simple single floor rancher and maybe has 80ft "total" gutter run. She called them because she has a maple and an oak tree in the yard and behold, clogged gutters every fall. She normally has a guy do it twice a year for about $100.00 a pop. Anyway, how does $8600.00 sound for gutters!!!:eek::eek::eek:o_Oo_Oo_O:jaw::jaw::jaw::jaw::bug::bug::bug::bug: I told her to call a local friend here locally and he gave her a price of $1200.00 with the generic leaf caps, completely installed, made to her home and no seams.
So, if you ever think about calling Leaf G#@%D gutter systems, make sure you have plenty of "butt lube" ready! :picard: I'm sure they're gonna hound her now because she said she'd think on it.

$8600?! For 80 ft?! :bug: :faint:That's a crime...and sounds predatory to me! Someone should report them to the BBB or something! What a bunch of snakes!
I just had a seamless gutter guy come out and do a 70' run (3 pieces) with a bit of custom work for less than $200! And this is not cheap junk...its nice aluminum gutter, and the guy did a good job putting it up...I went up and checked it! They quoted me "leaf guard" for on it too...that would have almost doubled the price to $350-$375, something like that...I didn't add that.
Now, he was recommended by father in law, who is a builder and uses them for his gutter work all the time...so I may have gotten the "good ole boy" discount, but, it really sounded like this was their regular price.
I had a different guy out a couple years ago to quote new gutters on the house, and both garages (about 210' total)...and even that was only gonna be $1500!
    $8600...for shame...

Seamless aluminum $12/ft around here, three different companies gave basically the same estimate, I asked the last guy why I should choose him and he said I'll throw in the downspouts.

I kinda thought so too!!! She called a friend of mine whos a contractor and he has sub-guys do gutter work for him. She's going with him, new downspouts, leaf caps, gutters and he's gonna remove and discard all her old $#!T. "I" think his price was fair and they'll have it done in a day. They are also going to do the front of her garage where her entrance door is, another 20ft included, I had forgotten that earlier. I just hope they don't start calling her every day. I told her to screen her calls now, you know salesmen will badger her...

Interestingly I caught a blurb on the news this morning, flybynight scammer businesses using unsuspecting homeowners address's as place of business, similar results, no one to be found when they relocate except the bewildered homeowner whose address was used, outrageous estimates and shoddy if any work done. I would call the number and give them a piece of my mind and see if you can block that phone number from calling her. Boy this chaps my hide.

That’s nuts, I have been paying a local company less than $50 to clean my gutters once a year, I had a Tall Cape Cod and now I have a split level home, money well spent if you ask me. Every now and again I blow the gutters out my self when needed. Tons of acorns falling right now.

The flat guards from Home Depot or Costco aren't so bad. Not the finest for shedding extremely heavy rain or in snow and ice but sheesh they're only 2 bucks for three feet. They do work though for keeping leaves and pine needles out. As long as you get some wind to blow the stuff that sits right on top off otherwise that needs to get cleared off.
Those ten foot sections of gutters and the joinery pieces are pretty sad crap though. I'm trying some right now and wishing I bought seamless.

Same here, billb3 . Previous owner had some 10' sections of that stuff and the connectors all leaked.
They aren't on the house anymore. Lots of Pine needles and Maple/Oak leaves so gutters can be a pita.

Me too! I've known this lady/family since they moved in about 1970ish. I used to cut their grass when I was about 12, $3.00 for the whole lawn and she used to give me a "bottle" of coke after! :) Her husband was a mill worker from Phila and they retired down here. I know most of the families on the block and all of the older retirees, mainly because I've done things for them in the past. My friend Jeff who is the contractor also called me last night, he's gonna talk to the township about this issue. I'm curious to see what comes out of it and if they have had any complaints about this company. Here, you need a permit to fart! :fart: So, beings he's a building contractor, he's going to dig about this.

Gutters can be expensive to get installed. Pays to shop around. The elderly are easy pray for scammers. Many times, they get paid and then disappear without having done work that was contracted. Goes to show if you want, you can get involved by getting to know your seniors in your area and let them know you are willing to help them with their selection when they are ready to enter into a contract. A few wellness checks never hurts. I am friends with several older veterans. Most are 70++. We get together and call each other. Esp when one of us is having issues. I agree with Heidi, call block that company. They'll put her number on a robo call system that doesn't know to quit. They might also sell her number and then the tides of hell will come.
Thanks Dave for caring and sharing.

A couple of years ago I had a 20' gutter installed. Seamless with down spouts. It only cost us about $200.

And they advertise on TV. Profit margin must be about 400% My son has taken out old tubs/showers and replaced them for $1000+ or - depending on the situation. Prices go up when you get into the tiles etc. Basic installs with the surrounds are quick once all the old stuff is removed and there is no more running for parts.
