I stepped outside before supper and heard the all too familiar sound of a tree coming down. Took a walk out to the woods and found what appears to be a red oak tipped over and hung up in a couple other trees. It doesn't look too safe to get close to it tonight. I will try to get pics tomorrow morning. It might be one of those snags where you let Ma Nature take down.
We heard one falling this morning before we got up. No doubt all the rain made it a bit too heavy so it fell. Did you get much of that rain? We got 1.65" for the 2 days.
Sometime overnight it must have made more sounds but I was asleep and didn't hear anything. This is what I found when I went out to look at it this morning. It just brushed the wood pile and no damage was done. In the third to last pic where you can see the sun, there is a decent size branch from another tree that is bent over. I will need to be very careful cleaning this mess up. At least it is close to my wood splitting area
I am having a hard time keeping up with what Mother nature providesI have gotten a start on it and hope to do more this morning. I am just a 70+ YO with 2 chainsaws and no heavy equipment to deal with the wood. I just take my time and quit when tired. It isn't going anyplace.
I hear you Erik B that is a lot of work for sure but sounds like you have the perfect attitude by just taking your time and listening to your body. Like you said wood isn't going anywhere and you have sometime before old man winter truly sets in. Be safe

Quite often it is but it does happen. The bigger storms we usually watch them come from the west, then break up just before they get to us and then they rebuild just east of us. Or they will either dip south or north. It is strange how maybe 20 miles from us they get some big storms and we get nothing or next to nothing. But then, there are those years now and then when we get hammered. It is the same with rain or snow. For the last 4 years we've had very little snow. Our biggest snowfall last year I think was a 6" snow but during the winter for the last 3 years I've plowed snow either 2 or 3 times. That is not much for the whole winter.
For a second there I honestly thought joshing around but since rain here is like a coat you put on often.... that’s just new to me.
I got out for a couple of hours today and at least got most of the brush cleaned up. Just the main trunk now. The second picture shows the tree that was under tension, at least I thought that. It had broken up higher and there was not much tension at all. It seems to be supported on each end. That is work for another day.
