It started with a 10mm bolt. I was fixing something on the tractor and came up short a 10mm bolt. So off to the Fastenal shop and a few $ later I had a 5 pack of bolts. Tractor reassembled and I'm good to go.

Then a week or two later, I was riveting the wheel well liner back into the jeep and while I was searching for the proper rivet, I came across a 25 pack of 10mm bolts. I needed one a year or two ago for another tractor repair and decided that given the number of rusty/corroded 10mm bolts involved I should just get a 25 pack. So now I've got 28 of them.

Somehow this trigger something and I realized that I have most of the tools and supplies I need to do what I need/want to do but oftentimes I don't realize I have it. Other times a 5 minute project turns into a 3 hour project because I can't find what I need.

So I've embarked on quest to organize my life until I have a place for everything and everything in its place. I started yesterday in my barn workshop. Nothing too ambitious, just one small section. The before:

The whole shop needs repair as it was old and the poles were rotting when I bought the place a decade ago. I hired a guy who needed so work a couple years ago to pour a floor and replace the worst section. This section has new posts and studs.

I decided I want a wall I could hang things on and a small sharpening/repair/mainenence bench under the window.

    Step 1: procure some lumber.

Step 0: We don't need no stinkin' lumber yard: IMG_6010.jpeg

    Step 2:

    Put it all together:

Helpful hint: start at the bottom so you don't have to hold each board. Note the upper right. What the hell was I thinking?!

Find the old temporary kitchen counter support that I freed up by finally installing some cabinets IMG_6034.jpeg
And make a bench with some elm 2x lumber cut for another project.

Now I just need to live with it a while and decide where everything goes before I start putting up labels and silhouettes.

Too damm hot to do more until this evening when I clean up and put away the tools from the job and sticker the remaining lumber for later.

I know it will all shrink a little and crack some. But it ain't cabinetry, its a barn.

That's how my whole house is built. Mostly tongue and groove, but still ... Only places I've come across plywood so far was repairs to the floor. I've added a few small sections of plywood repairing the roof.

My plan is if/when I build a barn/shop, that's how I'll do it. Can't stand the idea of buying lumber and having acres of perfect lumber trees.

American Pickers restored it and sold it back to the band.

I know the feeling of looking for things that I know I have but can't find.

Easiest method of finding lost stuff is to replace it, then it appears, as if magically.

One of these days I too may become organized at home, may...

At work I'm a stickler for organization, not so much @ home.

It is pretty far gone. Certainly beyond my skill set. But it is an incredibly cool looking vehicle no doubt!
