It's about time to replace the catalyst in the Buck 80. I only know of two companies that make catalysts. Who makes the better catalyst, Fire Cat or Condar? Or is there another maker that I don't know about? No company, that I know, of makes a steel catalyst for the Buck 80. Thanks!

I don’t think condar makes cats. They sell cats made by others. They do make some great thermometers.

Not really sure. I remember talking about this when we were in DC and know there was another company who talked about starting up. Even Tom thought about it but so far it is a no go.
Holy smokes, they sure made it clear that they make the cats themselves. I suspect they heard the same rumor that I did or maybe they started making them and are VERY proud. Second viscous condar rumor: Condar claims that you don't need a cat gasket for the BK stoves, not sure about your Buck. On that other forum, the BK representative fiercely counters that theory and states that a cat gasket is required.
I'm on yr2 of a new Condor stainless cat. It replaced the original ceramic cat. Yr1 was fine. Cat looked good when I cleaned the stove a few weeks ago. I know that an issue of back puffing was greatly reduced with the new cat.
Why I say I like fire cat service. I bought a new one and when it came it had one small bad spot on it (I say bad spot but it would likely be fine). I contacted them via email and they responded timely and sent me another and told me to keep the first one for a back up.
