Load of red oak

Got about 1/4 of the load split. Once the work in the shop slows down the rest of the pile should go quick. I hope.

 

Got to get where you can when you can.

 

oak fresh cut, burn 14-15 - more like 15-16, 16-17 even better

 

That's only a quarter of it!

 

That pile of splits is sitting on a foot or so of snow so it looks bigger than it really is.

 

Waiting on parts for the work in the shop so I managed to get a little more done.

 

Burn it when it gets dry.
I have some 5 or 6 year old Oak (was on the bottom of stack) and it does not burn any better then the 2 year old Oak (2 summers).

 

Nice looking oak... That's about the utmost perfect scrounge.

Looks like most of it was bucked up to the right length. Did you need to saw any of it?

Before I got my splitter a week ago, I would be looking at those crotch pieces and started figuring out a way to give them away or pitch them. Not anymore!

 

Sometimes I'll cut em to a length that will fit N-S in my E-W stove, bust em up and put em in the chunk bin. I'm burning a lot of chunks now, when I don't need to absolutely pack the stove....

 

Most of it is right around 17" to 18". There are a few that will need to be cut down an inch or two.

 

You know we want the finished stack pics as well....

 

I will post pics of it stacked as soon as i can. Shop filled up over the last few days and these guys can't wait. Hope it's less than a month but the phone keeps ringing. Shop was almost full before I came home on Friday to find this waiting for me. Oops. Can't post pics from the phone for some reason. I'll post them in the morning.

 

Ok. I guess it's working. This was also in the driveway.

Made a little progress. Still have about half of the truck load to split and stack. Rows are 10' long and about 6' high.

Finished the pile last night. Only things left to do are shovel up the saw dust that came in the truck and spread out some grass seed before the weeds take over. Oh yeah, almost forgot. Need to figure out what I'm going to do about this winter coming up too.

I'm hoping to work out a deal with a guy a few miles away that has a load of hard maple logs that's been sitting about 2 years. If it's cut and split soon it just might be ready for this winter coming up.
