Almost had just the fireplace going Friday night. Chilly and rainy, got down to 62* in the house. Lows in the 40s the next few mornings!

Which model is this? Just got a "new to me" 400 with the double doors. Hoping it takes care of our 1,500 sq foot open plan.

Yep, 62°inside, about time to build a small fire.
Welcome to the club, lots of great folks on here, sharing knowledge and humor.

More about just feeling like trying to dry out the house. I was amazed in coastal Maine how folks start their fire places and stoves when its in the 70s to "drive out the damp".

I'll be glad when we can start burning IN the house and not UP outside. I'm ready for the A/C to turn off. A week ago, 9-9, it was 101° @2:00 PM. It's been one of the hottest September's I recall.

It's been over a month since we've had AC on. Yesterday's high in the house was 66. It won't be long now.

This morning news reported Mount Washington in NH has 32 deg and it's first ice. I see where I am (just south of Boston) is going to get into the middle 40's at night this week.
It's coming! and for some I'm sure it's already here.
I remember Dave in Alaska would be one of the first to report burning by now.

Yup. Just put together the makings of a fire in the wood stove, for an early morning lighting. Close the windows? What forever for.

Well I think it will happen tonight. Its 43 outside right now with .25" of rain already today and winds at 20mph. Snow in the hills just above the house so I think I'll throw in the towel and make the first one this evening.... 20190916_133628.jpg

Still holding out here - every time we get close the sun comes out and we warm back up. Only touched 64 inside once, for about an hour. I guess our strategic blinds management is working out pretty good. :) Forecast says we're good until the weekend if not longer. No complaints - we love the fire, but don't have as much pine ready as I'd hoped for. Hoping the snow holds off a while so I can rectify that for next year.

I wish... I'm being tempted with the best wood supply I've ever had (not saying all that much compared to you folks though) and a new stove my wife and I put in a few weeks ago.
We still have fans in the windows and the forecast for the next week, again for what that's worth, shows the temps jumping back up into the 80s. I'm realistically looking at a mid October first burn.

Temps in the 80's this week with dew points in the 60's. AC will keep running this week. Should start cooling off by next weekend.

I got to say I cannot believe how well some blinds (specifically those honeycomb types) work at keeping the house warm and cold when you want it.

Same here. With the rain we had recently it's very sticky out. I'm guessing a few weeks or so yet for my 1st fire.

We're still holding off having our first fire, it looks like the weather will be really nice the rest of the week but would like to start burning Monday so I can burn four face cord of pine before we change over to better wood. Once those four face are gone, I can stack another four in the same area.

Also check out Tom (Rope ) who is near Tok, Alaska. He's already had some snow too.

I also see many areas in the Rockies getting some big snow but mostly in the high elevations. Lots of ski resorts reporting snow and some plan on opening soon.

No fire yet but: Been fairly warm here for quite a while. Last night I had the upstairs windows all open a bit because we are used to the fresh air at night. Yesterday and last night we had a low pressure and rain sweep through and the night temp was down to 52* outside and the house was a bit cool so I bumped the furnace for an hour to warm it up a bit. First time this year. Unless we have a very late fall, we will be burning within 3 weeks! Next thing you know, I'll be breaking out the hot buttered rum and Irish coffee!
