    The kicker is that the older saws do not have the model number on the starter cover.

    That is waaaaaaaay cool! I can't figure out what he is doing there?? The first cut looks like he is going vertical on the side of the tree, or is that just a weird camera angle or something? Then he cuts thru the middle of the tree?? That's some serious technique!

    How about a play by play?

    Where did you get the "Full" Chaps you have on in the pics? It looks like they are complete pants, instead of the strap around type.... The straps drive me nuts, and constantly fall down... which makes me not want to wear them.

    I'd love a pair of pants instead, which is what yours looks like!

    The video starts partway through he is cutting the top part of the face wedge. The plunge cut serves a couple purposes first it lets you know if the tree is hollow or not and allows you to fine tune the hinge and cut the center of the tree for wedges. Finally you cut the back and timber. That is an over view of what's happening as I type slowly. As for your last post he is a rebel :whistle:

    And the levels pants can be purchased at places like baileys. Or any other logging or arbor is t site

    Mine are Stihl ProMark 9 layer Full-Wrap chaps, available from any Stihl dealer. Pretty comfy but very warm and I really dislike wearing them in warmer temps. They also offer a couple pairs of chainsaw pants which you might be interested in.

    No problems either. It's up to the individual user's level of comfort and risk IMO. The safety gear is a great idea for anybody, especially chaps and especially inexperienced operators, but the operator in that video sure doesn't need us to be his nanny. ;)

    Even though I use a fair amount of PPE while working in the woods, both for reasons of comfort and safety, I do NOT suit up to test/tune every saw that comes through the shop. I'm reasonably confident I can zip off a couple cookies in a saw buck without drawing blood. :)
