Cut more today. Problem with going from the crown in is that it just keeps getting heavier....saw started acting up, must have known I was talking about a 362. Bogging down for no reason, I am going to start with the easy stuff, air cleaner and carb and go from there. Going to start splitting tomorrow. Once I have the saw running right I will get a longer bar and start on the main trunk.

Went into the saw to figure out the lack of power. I am not afraid to admit my mistakes regardless of how dumb they might make me look. Air filter was dirty, cleaned it 6 tanks ago. Time for the idiot part, that filter is original to the saw, just figured it was a part made to be cleaned not replaced. Going to the dealer tomorrow to get a new one. I am expecting the saw to wake up a little lol.

I put a new air filter in my little Husky arborists saw last Winter and it was like a new saw Bought saw used, never had checked filter and used it very little prior to that.

That’s good to hear, I am hoping the same thing happens for me. I really can’t believe my saw has been running at all.

As suspected the saw liked the new air filter, fuel filter and spark plug, even though the current plug was clean. No more bogging down torque returned. I split a cord, hydraulic, probably two more to go and then I’ll cut some more. I was expecting the white oak to split like red oak, so far that couldn’t farther from the truth, this stuff is nothing but twisted grain. Hopefully the trunk section will be easier. If this wasn’t such great btu’s I would walk away from this one with the amount of time consuming work it’s been. I would have several cords split and stacked by now from one of my normal scores.

I hear you on that one. Sometimes i question that on tough to process wood. I looked at some red oak from my CL add this afternoon. Remnants from May 2018 tornado that went thru near here. Big logs, all different lengths but the right one, and knotty/gnarly. Told the lady i may come back. Probably wont as i happened upon some fresh cut closer to home.

Looking forward to seeing if you pick up the stuff closer to home. Doing what you are doing is so much smarter. I am going to be very upset with myself if I mess my back up on this white oak. It’s the fact that I remember playing under this tree as a little kid and marveling at it’s size back then, and the fact that I can see it, it’s a self inflicted hoarder mission that I will finish no matter the cost...the ancient beech tree it fell next to is another one that I will take all the wood from if it falls during my lifetime. It’s full of nails, used to be twice the height and size, a huge treehouse with a real door was where the current canopy stops, 40’ or so up, other platforms were literally 60’ plus off the ground. Sadly kids aren’t hardcore anymore...

the close stuff was almost the same distance and i passed it on the way to the oak score. Lots of very fresh cut roadside. I even stopped and knocked to ask about taking it and no answer. It was a some nice lengths of smaller diameter red maple straight and knot free. Green and clean. Probably an hour for me to cut and load. I wouldve left a note, but no paper with me. Ill leave one tomorrow morning as its 5 minutes from here.
As far as that tree, id leave it. If thats all you had its one thing but sounds like you are in for a lot of aggravation with it IMO.
