Was quitting for the day. Fresh off Facebook some ash logs on the other side of town. Responded, responded back and off I went.
nice score Joe. Was browsing FBM myself. Seems i cant score wood when i purposely look for it! Cool and dry today too. Was splitting some beech around lunch time and it felt good.
Winch em right onboard. Everything else there was gone. Just two logs of trunk left and a log from a large branch. The pieces I like
Madison is too far. I seldom go over ten minutes from home, although i just emailed my friend in Danielson for wood. He is 70. Ill go up and cut a PU full for him and bring one home for myself. Did it last Summer in the heat. NH meaning New Haven???
Good timing too. Just split and stacked the ash hoard I had. Now I can add these to the same stack. Keep it all together.
Yup Im actually in North Haven. Seldom do i go two towns away for wood. Hamden is next town over and lots of tornado wood there, but lots of work to get it out . Honey holes and roadside scores have made me lazy. I have trees to fell in 3-4 different areas come late Fall/ Winter.
Nice pile of wood the state is hoarding down at the salmon river. I’m not sure I like the idea of the state hoarding
Looks like dead white oak? GMC kill off? Did they hit your area Joe? I dont like the idea either! Its out tax dollars paying for that! Certainly they can hoard better than we can! What are they going to do with the wood anyhow? Did Lamont put in a woodstove in the governors mansion?
True. I’m not sure why they aren’t. That’s the usual protocol. We have some sort of bio electrical generation plant in the state somewhere. Have heard if they truck it they truck it there.
Lamont is not gonna burn wood as long as he has easy access to our wallets. Money burns easy. Don’t be poking this beehive with a short stick mister. LOL,,,,,,Just saw the new grocery tax yesterday. Only in Ct could a popsicle be considered a prepared meal in need of higher taxation. . All retaliation because the grocery stores outsmarted him on his plastic bag taxes. It’s a shame we’ve done away with the tar and feathers of olde. That yellow strip tells me I’m not supposed to touch it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Not all of it is wrapped in the yellow tape! Wood closest to photographer isnt! That is crime scene tape...theyre stealing our tax dollars!
Most of those type of state jobs here are bid on by private contractors. They're gonna do whatever they can profit on. Someone must have offered enough more over chip price for it to make it worthwhile hauling it. But yeah the yellow tape usually means hands off. Plastic bags and straws: Because our state was going nowhere fast with denying the populace plastic bags to support the act of consumerism our town banned thin film plastic bags. So now all the stores have plastic bags that are thicker than what the thin film maximum is allowed in the ban. So, really all they've done is increase the amount of plastic being pumped into the environment. The stores are not charging for the thicker bags so you know what the majority of people are going to do with them - the same thing they did with the thin film bags.
It would be my guess that state employees are "saving" that wood for themselves. Regarding straws - we've moved from paper wrapped plastic straws, to paper straws wrapped in plastic. Progress?
I’m all for keeping the environment clean. It’s just most times government gets involved they create more and bigger problems. Ct put a ten cent tax on plastic bags. The stores went out and switched to paper, charge the ten cents for paper and keep it. I don’t have a problem with that,,,,,quite funny actually. So the state turns around and implements a myriad of extra taxes on food products above and beyond the normal sales tax. I thought punitive taxation was supposed to be on things government doesn’t want a free society to buy. Now food is a bad thing? Could very well be a private contractor. Certainly wouldn’t snag up wood that someone may turn into money. We all know how hard it is to make a living in this game. Also could be this is just a little chunk of state property divided by a Rural route. Maybe 10 acres. Mostly manicured field and recreation area. There’s just not a lot of room here to chip it up. I’ll probably never find out. Too much red tape and hoop jumping looking for permission.
