    I pay about $350 a treatment and they say it's about 4 acres. It started out at $440 a treatment, 4 years ago. . Keeps getting cheaper because I threaten to leave (no where else to go)

    I only get 3 treatments a year. In the spring I get a weed and feed (general), then a few weeks later (should be soon) just fertilizer, then in the the fall they give it a mix that is supposed to help it throughout the winter. I may do without that one this year.

    Thanks...That's not too bad. Wifey spends a few hundred on fert/ weed/ grub killer each time she applies it, I may have to look into a service.

    do not want to hijack Dex's thread but, this always amazed me.
    Hailey when we brought her home, 2.2lbs. Hailey at 1yr old, 124lbs. was not ready for that.

    Homemade rubber strip on the back of the deck. Made from truck mudflaps.

    What's this $40 stuff you and Smoke speak of? How do you apply it? It would save me about $1,000 a year... ??

    2,4-D is a broad-leaf herbicide and one of the main ingredients in a lot of lawn weed killer products. It doesn't control every weed (like clover, for example), but it will knock out dandelions, buckhorn, etc.

    I buy agricultural 2,4-D because it is dramatically cheaper than whatever you'd find in a box store. A gallon jug can cover about 3 acres...I apply it with a small trailer sprayer.

    You could also apply a high nitrogen liquid fertilizer too, but I have to mow my grass too often as it is.

    There is not much weed killer in that one.. I asked. :( Its a solid fert. A very slow release IIRC. The others are a spray application.

    The weed and feed (1st treatment is the only heavy weed killer)

    My neighbor does the full 6 course treatment and his yard looks worse than mine by July/August. It's like his yard gets "hooked" on the fertilizer and in times of little rain? His yard goes brown. Mine stays lush and green :)

    Love the pet pics, esp with the little girl. Be careful, Timber will think he is the parent when he gets older. He might not let anyone near her unless he thinks he can trust them. I have seen this happen many times. Personally, I consider it a good thing.

    Does he mow lower than you do? ;) Keeping it "high and tight" like you do goes a long ways towards weed control and shades the soil surface to preserve moisture.

    If you really want to see the difference, take a shovel and pull up a 6" section in both lawns. I'm betting the roots in your lawn reach a lot deeper than his.

    and put it on heavy. All 2.5 gallons on about 3 acres. Those little yellow bastids are wilting within the hour! :eek:

    I cut much higher than he does. I cut almost as high as my deck will go.

    My grass looks like it's cut pretty low. Until you go to walk through it, and you realize it's well past your ankles ;)
