Cleaned up most all the 1/2 rotten limb wood this evening. The base is going to take my 42”b/c. Lotta good wood in the base!
It’s a shame it was as far gone up top but we’re getting into some good wood. A few young deer didn’t mind my 394 screaming about 50-60 yds away. Did I mention I’m getting a bit tired?
A couple I felled last September were like that. Have a bunch more like them to fell at same location. The sap wood on the big stuff was starting to punk. Nice looking work. Any pics of the mound of rounds in your yard?
Not yet. I’ll get one tomorrow. All this wood is being unloaded at my parents. It will be used by them.
Yes but, he typically gets helpers. Got the last of this big oak today. We took both turds. Had to mount up the 42. It’s a heavy sum beach with the long bar on there. Got it all bucked up. Decided to finish noodling with the 24”. The chain on the long one is round filed and it lost its fine edge. When I made the swap I noticed for the second time since owning the 394, it lost the chain tensioner screw. We were able to get it good enough to proceed. I’ve only ever had one other screw cone off my saws (a recoil cover screw that wasn’t captured). That was some heavy chit! I’m achin’!!
Here’s Dad’s stacks. He also gave me a case of my favorite brew. The cold one is really hitting the spot right now. What a marathon of wood gettin’. Sun - truck & trailer load Mon - truck load Tues - truck load Wed - rain out Thurs - truck & trailer load Fri - truck & trailer load Sat - 2 trucks & trailer load I need a break!!
Ill say. Just don't drink all of your "tip" at once! Great Looking wood and work Hoard on my friend, hoard on!
Back to the honey hole this morning. We took down the 2 dead standing ash trees and a locust that was nearby. Time for lunch and football!
No rest for the wicked.. going back tomorrow morning for the blown over oak. We should be able to wrap up this honey hole with one more trip.
I know, I'm still trying to finish our last shed, build some more for wood we still have, help my son get his homesite ready to move double wide in next week, oldest daughter has surgery Monday, their car is broke...work my full time job...it will get done, one day at a time...mama said there would be days like this, just didn't tell me it would be bunches like bananas.
i feel bad for the guy sitting next to you when the second half started...unless he had beans too! great looking wood and work sir!
So, last haul pics for this honey hole. Today I took down the blown over oak and it yielded a very nice load! I took about a dozen rounds from the end that was on the ground. Then decided to notch the main base, wedge and fall the remaining mess. It worked as I intended. There was another large tree right beside it for me to stand/hide behind for protection so in my mind it wasn't as high a risk as it initially appeared. My sons Hacked Up 365 special absolutely decimated this log! I put a fresh dall ground loop on it and she ate! Noodled the main base and bucked at 20". My dad was impressed with how fast this saw cut. Truth be told, I wish it was mine! So here's the stacks from this location. Next pics will be split/stacks. Glad it's done. The dry wood, should keep my parents going through this season. I think the stuff that needs seasoned will provide a nice head start for next season. Now, where's that beer glass...
